LISTEN    ,    i  could  talk  about  this  ship  all  day  .    in  fact    ,    i  do  talk  about  it  all  day    (    selena  will  confirm  )  .    we  have  about  one  hundred  aus  for  these  two  ranging  from  pure  self  -  indulgent  fluff  to  soul  -  crushing  angst    ,    but  for  this  post  at  least  i’m  going  to  focus  on  their  canon  verse    (    if  anybody  tries  telling  me  that  jordan  isn’t  part  of  scream  2  canon  i’ll  meet  them  in  an  alley    )  .    

fun  fact  :  jordan  was  very  nearly  a  target  in  the  windsor  massacre  .    before  mickey  had  even  met  her    ,    he  had  her  earmarked  as  a  potential  victim  .    you  may  be  wondering  how  and  why      —      let  me  explain  .    when  mickey  very  first  arrived  on  campus  as  a  freshman    ,    still  in  the  early  planning  stages  of  his  crimes    ,    he  studied  the  student  directory  in  search  of  names  that  matched  the  original  woodsboro  victims  .  we  already  know  he  found  matches  for  maureen  prescott    ,    steven  orth  and  casey  becker  in  maureen  evans    ,    phil  stevens  and  casey  ‘  cici  ’  cooper    ;    it  stands  to  reason  that  he  would  have  sought  out  matches  for  the  rest  of  the  woodsboro  victims  .    victims  like  tatum  riley  .    

so  when  mickey  and  jordan  officially  meet  at  a  halloween  party    ,    he  befriends  her  with  every  intention  of  eventually  killing  her  further  down  the  line  .    i’m  not  going  to  go  off  on  too  much  of  a  tangent  but  i  think  what  happens  next  really  ties  into  how  mickey  views  all  of  his  potential  victims    :    he  doesn’t  really  have  anything  against  them    (    he’s  even  capable  of  enjoying  spending  time  in  their  company    )    ,    it’s  just  that  ultimately  he  views  them  as  disposable  and  so  has  no  qualms  about  killing  them  to  get  what  he  wants  .        —      they  spend  most  of  the  party  flirting  back  and  forth  and  he  ends  up  walking  her  back  to  her  dorm    ,    at  which  point  he  actually  tries  asking  her  on  a  date  and  she  politely  tells  him  she’s  not  interested  in  anything  romantic  .  mickey  takes  the  L  like  a  champ  and  instead  proposes  being  just  friends    ,    to  which  jordan  accepts  .    this  leads  to  a  solid  six  weeks  or  so  of  friendship    ,    during  which  time  mickey  starts  second  -  guessing  his  plan  to  kill  her  .    by  the  time  they  share  their  first  kiss  at  the  end  of  those  six  weeks    ,    he’s  beginning  to  move  into  ‘  i  don’t  really  want  to  but  i’ll  kill  you  if  i  have  to  ’  territory  .

their  relationship  really  blossoms  over  the  next  few  months  .    after  doing  a  lot  of  research  based  upon  real  people  ,    i’m  quite  settled  on  mickey  being  capable  of  caring  for  people  besides  himself    ,    but  only  if  he  makes  the  conscious  effort  to  do  so  .    without  him  making  that  effort  and  actively  choosing  to  care  for  someone    ,    he  won’t  .    it’s  during  these  months  that  mickey  really  begins  making  that  effort  .    jordan  is  pretty  much  the  first  person  besides  his  sister  that  he’s  ever  warmed  to  in  this  way  .    she’s  someone  he  really  connects  with    ,    someone  who  shares  his  sense  of  humour  and  who  takes  an  interest  in  his  hobbies  and  passions  .

i  swear  i  could  kiss  you  all  for  sending  this  prompt  because  i  have  SO  MUCH  to  say  about  this  dynamic  .    the  entire  working  -  relationship  between  mickey  and  debbie  is  so  unbelievably  fascinating  to  me      —      there’s  just  so  much  untapped  potential  there  .    

as  we  know  from  canon    ,    the  two  of  them  first  met  on  the  dark  web  .    debbie  initially  reached  out  to  mickey  when  he  was  still  in  high  school    ,    not  long  after  the  woodsboro  massacre  .  now    ,    mickey  may  be  a  master  manipulator  but  even  he  has  nothing  on  debbie  loomis  .    this  is  not  to  absolve  mickey  of  any  blame  but  man    ,    she  played  that  boy  like  a  fiddle  .      —      from  the  get  go    ,    there’s  a  very  noticeable  power  imbalance  between  them  .    mickey  is  a  teenager  and  debbie  is  a  grown  adult  .    more  than  that    ,    mickey  is  a  teenager  who  craves  attention  and  is  very  eager  to  prove  himself    ;    this  makes  him  the  perfect  target  for  debbie  to  exploit  .

she  knows  exactly  how  to  get  him  on  board  with  her  plan    ,    knows  how  to  lavish  him  in  praise  and  stroke  his  ego  .    he  doesn’t  take  much  convincing  .    i  have  it  as  part  of  my  canon  that  mickey  had  already  killed  two  victims  prior  to  meeting  debbie    ,    with  plans  to  commit  more  .    debbie’s  proposal  doesn’t  interfere  with  this  plan  at  all  .    if  anything    ,    it  helps      ;      mickey’s  entire  reason  for  killing  is  because  he  desires  fame  and  notoriety  .    murder  for  him  is  just  a  means  to  an  end    ,    his  true  goal  is  to  make  history  with  the  trial  .    debbie  has  just  given  him  a  target  that’ll  guarantee  him  media  attention  .    he  agrees  to  help  her  very  quickly  .  

now    ,    debbie  is  a  smart  woman  .    i  firmly  believe  that  she  intended  on  killing  mickey  from  the  moment  she  recruited  him    ;    she’s  not  the  type  to  leave  loose  ends  and  he’s  a  big  one  .  she’s  also  extremely  calculating  .  she  knows  exactly  how  to  ensure  everything  is  pinned  on  him      —      right  down  to  stabbing  randy  with  her  left  hand    (    mickey  is  left  -  handed    ,    debbie  is  right  -  handed    )  .    mickey  may  not  realise  it  but  debbie  is  one  hundred  percent  in  control  .    he  certainly  brings  his  own  ideas  to  the  table    (    the  entire  '  real  life  sequel  ‘  angle  is  his  suggestion    )    but  ultimately  all  of  his  schemes  have  to  be  run  by  deb  first  .
