Welcome Mat DC
Moving? Moving to DC by any chance? Well let me be the first one to welcome you. Welcome friends! I would not say I am an expert in this location but I plan to be very soon. Probably like most people in this area, work relocated me here and it has been my home for the last few years. I remember thinking my move here would be a smooth transition because I had help from my employer. Boy was I wrong! What I thought to be an easy move turned out to be the worst moving experience of my life. But do not fret friends. I have been in the DMV for approximately four years at the creation of this blog. This blog is meant to be a FYI, a heads up if you will of the things people do not bother to tell you when you’re relocating to this area for the first time.
Welcome Mat DC is here to help you all avoid the mistakes I made and to maybe offer some advice for your future move to the DMV. For those of you who is not familiar with those three little letters, just know they have a life of their own here. DMV is short for the metro area or DC-Maryland-Virginia. If you are considering moving here to the DMV based off of your past tours to Washington, DC with friends, family, or tour groups, you are WRONG! Those type of memories are tourist memories, not necessarily the reality of living in the city. I moved here from the south. I was born and raised in Mississippi and lived in Louisiana before I moved here to DC. I moved here knowing everything would be a little bit more expensive than what I was used to but I was in for an awakening. STICKER SHOCK is the first words that comes to mind. My first tip to my new friends who have been eyeing the Nation’s Capital as your future home whether temporarily or permanently, my first tip to you is to DO YOU RESEARCH ON EVERYTHING.
Until next time…
