My HC for Flowery's feelings toward Asgore are... complex. They're not quite romantic and not quite platonic and not quite familial. I'll say straight up that I think interpreting anything relating to Darkners/Plantners as strictly literal (for example: "Flowery is literally Asgore's child because Asgore planted him.") is doing a disservice to the way Deltarune utilizes fantasy and metaphor. Asgore planted the flowers to be part of his wedding bouquet and kept them alive long beyond their expected lifespan. They represent the promise of love everlasting and the blooming of a new family. Assuming Asgore and Toriel were married before having Asriel, the flowers are all 18+ years old. For years Asgore tended to them, told them stories about humans and monsters, about Hometown, about his friends, about the lives of his children, about his guilt and obsession, about his divorce, about his grief. Darkners/Plantners are the culmination of the memories and emotions poured into inanimate objects that are given consciousness and identity in the dark. Everything about Flowery is designed to be The Golden Boy. He has maximum stats, he doesn't need anyone's help, he's charming, he's handsome, he's fun, he's everything you need! He tries to be perfect in an effort to appeal to Asgore. To give back a shred of the love and care Asgore gave to him. He craves Asgore's approval, but even more than that, he craves Asgore's happiness. Flowery embodies aspects from every type of love in Asgore's life, including his ex-wife and his best friend and his own son, and that's part of what makes it all feel so off. Asgore never would've accepted this weird facsimile of a perfect life. It's a flower's idea of the perfect life for a man. It's wrong.
