I love John Green novels because they remind me that no matter how small a life, we are all so blessed to have known one another.
I love the Mountain Goats because they remind me of the things I love about Christianity; that no matter what, we all deserve love, and we all deserved to be saved.
I love photography because it is a fuck you to the passage of time. It is the holding onto moments that would otherwise pass into the oblivion of things that once happened.
I love crying because it seems sad, but like most things, it is always so much more complex than that.
I love doing the dishes because it means I have eaten, and I am confident in the fact that I will soon eat again.
I love my cat because...well where do I even begin?
I love my wife because I have known her for years and some days I still feel I don't know a damn thing about her. Also because the law doesn't think I have a wife, and fuck the law.
I love Jackson Pollock because he taught me I can hate a work of art for no discernible reason but more so because my hatred of him caused my mother to recognize the artist of a painting for the first time. "Isn't this that one painter that you really hate?"
I love the Mormons who no long stop by because, despite how much they'd love me in their choir, realise that we are heading towards divinity from different places.
I love the friends who have so graciously let me into their lives. Because how precious is it that we should be allowed to witness each other's stories?
I love, I love, I love.
You know that whatever character did those problematic things isn't like. Real, right?
You are aware that a fictional character is just a rhetorical construct designed to fulfill a narrative/thematic purpose right? That their actions are written by an author who wants to use them to explore complex ideas and moral gray areas within the safe confines of fiction right? That they aren't a real person who has killed real people right?
Get your well-balanced hands off of my fav this instance! They've killed! I can show you the bodies!
I’ve finally been playing through the story mode of GTA V for the first time, and I think I’m starting to develop a theory that it’s actually a horror game that’s basically a brightly colored version of Silent Hill.
I swear I'm going to expand on this thought when I get a moment
So here's the gist of it.
Silent Hill acts more as a force of nature, rather than a specific place now. It takes the protagonist's character flaws/traumas/past transgressions and metaphorizes them into twisted, exaggerated manifestations in the world. But it does that to one person individually.
The thing that GTA V does, and probably most every GTA game, is to take the culture at large and satirise it. However, by doing so, it turns that very society into this grotesque parody of itself. In Silent Hill, you get monsters. In GTA you get this only slightly more horrific version of the US capitalism that, like frogs in a warming pot, the people have just seemed to have gotten used to.
There are two big things here: one is the method, and the other is perspective.
Both take the worst parts of a person and use them to create something monstrous. Silent Hill does it with people, GTA does it with a culture.
Perspective-wise? Silent Hill makes you the subject. GTA on the other hand, makes you play one of the many monsters that inhabit the otherworld. Do you see what I'm playing at here?
More to come, surely. Many thoughts to be had, undoubtedly.
this is exactly how i watch movies

I have eaten the plums
which you left on the vine to ripen
forgive me
they were perfectly ripe
and I am a fox
I love how, whenever I sketch Gandalf, he's just triangle + wizard hat (and sometimes pipe).
not everyone deserves the amount of kindness and forgiveness you’re willing to give
True. But that's none of my business.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Sepp published a post on Ko-fi
I done did a media diet post over on Ko-fi. It's a shorty but I'd appreciate if you gave it a gander.

From The Drafts
Half baked posts that never made it to the light of feed
It’s midnight right now but I’m still at my desk. I’m in the middle of a groove of scanning negatives that have been donated to me by family members as well as strangers.
I’m losing my mind over how well some of these are coming out too. The only thing at my disposal is a flatbed scanner and a desk lamp.
Just look at these though
So obviously you need to season the fuck out of these with more than just salt and pepper, but I have found that this is the best way every to cook chicken thighs.
It says medium-low heat, I've had a lot of success with my griddle set at 300-350°F or like 149-177°C I think?
Also the mix right here is brilliant. I used minced fresh ginger cause we didn't have any powdered and it was probably better in my opinion.
Anyway. Just had this two nights in a row and had to yap about it.
Take care!
