~ Pin in the form of a lion. Period:Â Iron Age II Date:Â ca. 9th century B.C. Geography:Â Iran, Hasanlu Culture:Â Iran Medium:Â Bronze, iron
In the confines of her mind belligerent with this hotel room So cupid...the light is bound Ventral being, bare, lustful and torn Like us all
Her skin Eroding the senseless totem pole Eroding like none Bent on self Bent on future Contorted by will Hanging in harmony her hands calmly disappear in the distance
Soft outlines mark her erection Devours these cool straight lines All grey but not of darkness This room; yields her Like Freedom yields tyranny Her limbs timid...yet confessing astride Leaning. Brimming. Radiating. She stands but she lies
Stillness, Still Rammed into mirrors Contemplation or exercise Vulnerable or palpable Fogging againts her tongue Dreaming or fantasizing Her wings glow elegance Her thighs compressed Awaiting lips Nip, knead, pulp, wring, screw

Rare Egyptian Bronze Cat Nursing Kittens, Late Dynastic, C. 712-343 BC
A cast bronze fragment of a piece that was perhaps a cuff or applique.
The ancient Egyptians, rather uniquely among the worldâs civilizations, had an obsession with cats, both tame and fierce, large and small. Cats were domesticated to help protect crops from pests in Cyprus or possibly Mesopotamia (it is difficult to interpret the archaeological record on this matter for a variety of reasons), but the Egyptianâs love of cats seems to have gone above and beyond that of their contemporaries. The cemetery at Hierakonpolis includes a cat skeleton in a pre-Dynastic tomb (c. 3700 BC) that had a broken left humerus and right femur that seem to have been set by a human and allowed to heal before that catâs ultimate death.
The first illustration of a cat with a collar comes from a 5th Dynasty (c. 2500 to 2350 BC) Egyptian tomb at Saqqara. Cats were the most frequently mummified animal in Egypt and there were multiple feline goddesses, including the domesticated cat-form Bastet. Bronze statues like this one may have been direct offerings or appeals to Bastet.

Silver and gilt plate and bowl with image of hunting king. Iran, Sasanian Period, 4th to 5th century A.D. Freer Gallery of Art. x xÂ
From the Freer:
One of the earliest and most enduring of the royal images created during the Sasanian period (ca. 224â651) shows the king on horseback hunting select quarry: boar, lion, antelope (or gazelle). This image, often embellished with gilding, was depicted on the interior of silver plates, about thirty of which have been found in Iran and neighboring countries. Produced in imperial workshops, these plates were given as official gifts from the king to high-ranking individuals within or beyond the empireâs frontiers. In the early centuries of Sasanian rule, silver production was controlled by a royal monopoly and could be minted into coins or fashioned into objects only on the kingâs authority.
