The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve. 

Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.

If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.

Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.

Your creativity has always been the heart of Tumblr, whether you’re the original poster or adding something brilliant in the reblogs, and nothing about this change is meant to limit that.

this is devastating for any artist or content maker on this site. the only thing that was even vaguely worth staying on this platform was how reblogs and replies worked. it creates community and encourages sharing and most of all: it helps smaller users get seen.

we already have ways of seeing how many personal notes we've obtained on a post. that is already built in with the site. you are creating some kind of weird visable-popularity hegemony that is completely unnecessary.

you have a fundamental problem with monetizing the site, and i get that. but this does not help you monetize it; it just adds bloat for seemingly no genuine purpose. please consider maybe starting to actually work with your userbase instead of against it (idk, partnership with AO3? fix your video functionality for more short-form content?)

Hey guys, I started a GoFundMe to try and get a new hospital bed to use at home. For the past year and a half, I have been trying to get a new bed that would better suit my needs. I have arthrogryposis, and I often need help with sitting up and moving around, as well as transferring in and out of my bed to my wheelchair. With the bed I currently have, it's incredibly low so I have a hard time transferring to my chair. My aides also have a hard time and I have lost a few aides struggle with giving me care due to back pain because of how low my bed is.

Despite needing a new bed that can electronically elevate, my Medicare and Medicaid have given me the run around with trying to get a full electric bed. My doctor has written a letter of necessity and prescription four times to get this bed, and nothing has happened still.

If I can get a full electric bed, my life would improve drastically. I will be able to transfer easer, be able to move around easier, and keep my aides. I know it's a high goal, but the bed I need has to be wider than the usual basic beds and I also need a better mattress that can prevent bed sores since I'm mostly bed bound.
