Original art by my friend @joeiurato. It lives in my bedroom. We met through climbing when we was running Urban Climber Magazine at it's beginning. He left the industry to pursue his art. We're still in touch because climbing and art can be about trust, creativity, defiance, passion, risk, soul, simplicity, disruption, heart, and community. When conversations (or lives) are rooted in these, you'd be surprised what can be connected.

For all the the thinking and the science and the training. For the biology and chemistry of my body, for all the details of crafting myself in a gym, in cities with straight lines, attempting to make myself perfect to perform in a moment in time that is not now; there are balance points. There is chaos and creativity and potential in this very moment. There is stillness in remote places. There is the harmony of a body moving through the curved lines of nature. There is spontaneity and adaptability. There is imperfection. And there is instinct and intuition, and the art of the appropriate action arising without thought. They killed it. Listen. @whokilledbrucelee at @the.grandfactory #Beirut #Lebanon (at The Grand Factory)
Sand art in Barcelona, Spain. Positivity for the people. The three wise monkeys, sometimes called the three mystic apes, are a pictorial maxim. Together they embody the proverbial principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". The three monkeys are Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth, who speaks no evil. There are various meanings ascribed to the monkeys and the proverb including associations with being of good mind, speech and action. Good vibes. Bless up. Stay good. 🔺✌🏽️🔺 (at Playa de la Barceloneta)

My life could be interpreted as mad at times. But, I learned some time ago that my life could not be governed by the perceptions and interpretations of others. I didn’t really start climbing until after college. I had climbed before, but it was only a few times a year. In 2005, I was 22 years old. I had moved back in with my parents around Detroit, and got a job with a friend. I was going to the local climbing gym more and more, as well as making trips down to the Red River Gorge, Kentucky. It was my escape from the traditional workweek grind. Through the pursuit of climbing, an opportunity was revealed that offered a slower life, and the time and space to figure out who I was, and what I really wanted. I took a job a Miguel’s Pizza in The Red, and moved into the woods of rural, central Kentucky. That’s when climbing changed from an escape of my daily life, into a part of my daily life. While amidst the trees and rocks, alone or with only a dedicated few, I felt wildness and primitiveness that was whole and complete. The process needed nothing, and I began to need less and less through practicing it. I felt at home in the wilder and quieter places, and amongst others who felt the same. It made me healthier and happier. I fell in love with the simplicity of a day of climbing with friends, and the idea of a life built around climbing. As the idea became reality, I felt a sense of purpose that affected a calmness and a confidence previously unknown to me. Based on this, it would be madness for me not to continue with this life of #climbing. #QuestionMadness @thenorthface #NeverStopExploring. Photo by @greg_mionske (at The Shawangunks)
When you look at the world from the 10 foot view, of course things are going to look strange. Try to challenge yourself to get that 30,000 foot view - try to see the big picture, put yourself in other people's shoes, use different lenses to look at the world, gain more perspective, try to open your heart and mind. Narrow mindedness and negativity, including sarcasm, never solved any worthwhile problems. (at Manhattan, New York)
