The scoff and the first words he heard made his gaze move towards the ground again. He knew it. He shouldn’t have been honest, it never ended-
His eyes widened at the following whispered words. How could he be so sure? The again, for once, Bakura’s voice calmed him. He knew better than to question it further so he merely nodded.
Listening to the spirit as he spoke and watching as his face moved closer, Ryou almost hated himself for the warm feeling in his heart. This was sick, a parasite like Bakura shouldn’t make him happy by promising to stay, he shouldn’t be able to.
And yet he was.
“I’ll be counting on you then. Hold your promise and do your worst. And just like you are the shadow that stays with me for the rest of time, I shall.. I shall be the light that will comfort you, if you ever seek for something of the sort.”
It might have been phrased weirdly but he supposed his mind was just too tired to care if his storytelling habits showed and he started rambling. Not like it mattered, as long as he got the point across.
and there it was, the words he had been waiting for deep down. it was pleasing to finally hear them from his own host’s mouth out of free will ━ or perhaps he was just a bad influence that knew how to trick the mind. either way, he had gotten what he had wanted from ryou and he shall use that to his full advantage. however, he also knew that he had to be even more careful not to cause much distrust to ruin the opportunity. “ Good . . . It pleases me to hear that . . . “ he whispered with a purr, reaching up and gently running his fingers along the skin of the boy’s cheek, pushing away any bit of hair that had tried to get in his face. “ Dear host . . . I promise you . . . “ perhaps it was cruel to play with another feelings like this; however, bakura was determined. if that meant gaining as much trust as he could from the other, then so be it. surely there was no way the two of them would stay within the same body for all eternity whether he failed his mission or not. for his emotions and intimate desires had been ignored for many years, he found no harm doing this in order to reach his goal. a shame that it had to be ryou, however. slowly, he leaned in further and had pressed his lips against the boy’s for a ghostly kiss. “ You will forever be my light . . . “ the words haunted with a hush tone within the ghost kiss.

“…Yes.”
The simple word felt like poison in his mouth. It was the truth, as much as he could be harsh towards the spirit, he was genuinely scared at the thought of him leaving.
“But.. Aren’t you too? Are you really ready to risk disappearing completely?”
Ryou had a hard time believing anyone was ready to lose it all, then again, it might be his own fear speaking in his place.
The small joke didn’t help with his mood that much.
“Don’t misunderstand, I do not approve of your actions, I still find them repulsing and wrong. I can’t promise to be on your side but I will always be here, just like you will be until the bitter end.”
The words made no sense but they were true.
As the other took hold of his chin, Ryou couldn’t help looking up to lock his eye’s with Bakura’s.
“I don’t. I don’t want you to win either but.. I am afraid of losing you. No matter how much I hate you for everything you did, I am not ready to lose someone who was always there with me… If it makes any sense.”
The following words he heard along with the gentle touch on his face hurt. The words hurt because they were nothing but filthy truth.
“I know they will most likely, if not surely, leave me as well. I know I will be all alone again. It’s not as if I was ever important to them, they only pity me. Nothing more.”
He took a breath, unsure of whether or not he should say it again to confirm it, but he decided to.
“I.. I don’t want you to disappear, Bakura.”
just the single word to the first question he had had immediately caught his attention. he could have fooled the spirit by how much he had voiced just how much he did not wish to be anywhere near him. to have this conversation now, being able to have the time to speak with his host made him realize that perhaps there was just some things he has yet to know about the boy. narrowing his eyes, being sure to hide his thoughts with a slight annoyed expression. “ . . . Foolish words . . . “ a scoff left him, shifting his feet while his thumb continues to stroke the other male’s cheek gently. “ However . . . “ a pause, slowly pulling the other closer, moving his head around to speak softly into his ear. “ I won’t disappear, or gods know I won’t fight without going down first. “ cheek pressed up against the side of ryou’s head, letting out a small hum. “ You are important to me. You are precious, and the others are fools; but, you don’t need them. You have me, after all; all the time, and I shall always be there beside you. If you ever feel alone, precious host, don’t be afraid to look back to your shadow. The last I knew, shadows are quite difficult to be rid of. So . . . “ a grin grew on his face, moving his head enough till they were face to face, their lips just mere inches apart. “ . . . it seems that you are stuck with me. “

It was never that Bakura’s presence bothered the vessel, it was just she never knew what to expect from him. Unpredictable as he was, Yuugi could never tell what he was thinking, what he was planning. That alone should be enough to convince her that he couldn’t be trusted.
And yet, she stayed. Instead of that inner instinct to turn and run, Yuugi’s feet remained still but her heart thumped in her chest. Despite all the warnings to turn her back to the man, she couldn’t. Even with the promise that he didn’t have the intention to harm her, how could she be sure he’d keep it? Bakura wasn’t the most reliable person Yuugi had the unfortunate chance to meet.
Seeing his demeanor change should have brought comfort to her. Seeing and hearing Ryou in front of her should have lowered her guard, but she knew better. It would have been easy for him to impersonate Ryou, they wore the same skin. If he started off impersonating to begin with, maybe she wouldn’t have seen right through his ploy.
“Just cut to the chase, Bakura.” Her voice hardened, clearly uninterested in his little game. “What do you want to talk about?”
seeing the looking upon her face almost pleased him, knowing that she would be a bit of a challenge; yet that didn’t bother him at all. there was always a weak point and he always did his best to find it one way or another. the soft features that helped form the face of his host slowly grew sharper, the innocent smile becoming a grin as his eyes narrowed while staring down at her. “ You are indeed the pharaoh’s host; always wanting to get down to business. However . . . “ shrugging his shoulders, he brought his hands up, closing his eyes. “ Could I simply not speak with a dear friend of my host’s ? Always jumping to conclusions and assuming. That’s quite rude. Never thought my host making friends with rude people. “ there was a light ‘tsking’ sound with his lips as he shook his head. “ Besides, if you do not wish to speak with me, then be my guest and leave. It’d just be another thing you and the pharaoh would have in common; leaving people behind, that is. “

“I know how it is, but some times the bad ones are those who need help the most. I just can’t stop thinking that maybe, just maybe, all this could end differently.”
His words were foolish at best, he didn’t know why he bothered saying it if it won’t be taken seriously. Yes, it was a naive and near impossible thought but imagining a future without the presence he grew so used to, even if it was malicious.
It scared him. The thought of being alone in his head scared him too much.
The frown that soon met his gaze didn’t surprise him all that much, it was Bakura after all.
“I am actually flattered you thought about me enough to think about what I could like but even so, I don’t quite believe I have to be specific about wanting friends who are living and breathing with their souls in their bodies.”
His tone got a bit of an annoyed tone with the last part of his sentence but it couldn’t be helped.
“I am aware of all that but what if you don’t succeed in your plan?… Will you disappear then?”
He himself was surprised he said that with a sad tone of voice, almost as if he hoped it wasn’t true. He should be happy at the thought. If the spirit was defeated he’d finally be free in his own body and everyone will be saved but he couldn’t be.
He was afraid of losing someone again, he lost his real father, his mother and his sister and losing someone who was always there, even if it was a bad person..
Ryou feared he wouldn’t be able to handle another gaping hole that will surely remain.
‘ . . . sometimes the bad ones are those who need help the most . . . ‘ it was simple things like this that had caught the spirit off guard, unexpected in a way and yet a part of him knew that his dear host would have wanted something as such. the poor soul. to even think that even such a kind soul such as ryou’s would even wish something of the sort towards someone like bakura. it was disgusting in a . . . flattering kind of way.
“ Are you afraid for me ? “ the question couldn’t be helped slipping out, trying to fully decipher the boy’s mind. to think that one moment he had been sure he had felt the hatred from the other, feeling that he had wanted nothing more for him to disappear; now ? it was as if there was sadness. did the boy actually fear of his disappearance ? had he become that attached to his own parasite, afraid that once it’s gone, he would be unable to move on ? what a mess this was. sighing, the spirit moved towards the other, eyes firmly on his with a hard stare. “ You doubt my ability to be successful ? And to think I had thought I finally had you on my side. “ there was a light chuckle to his joke before the atmosphere changed again, any sign of trying to lighten the mood now gone. “ However . . . if I were to fail to meet my goal, there is a good chance I will disappear. “ with one swift movement, he reached out, taking a firm grip onto ryou’s chin, enough to keep his attention on him. eyes narrowed, taking note of his host’s every little reaction. “ Is that not what you wish for ? Is that not what anyone would want ? For the pharaoh to win to be rid of me for good ? For him to separate us, tear apart the bond we had formed without trying. “ with his other hand, fingers slowly and lightly ran along the other’s face, gently brushing the boy’s bangs off to the side. “ Then what ? The one person who knows you most, who had stayed by your side no matter what . . . would be gone forever. Do you think the others would continue to stay ? Do you think they would want to be around you anymore when you would be free of me ? Have they not only been around because they were only worried for you ? It’s unacceptable and it’s disgusting. I don’t want that for you. So tell me . . . Do you still wish for me to disappear ? “

“I.. I might be.”
It was hard for Ryou to completely give up on someone, even someone like Bakura who has done him so much wrong for the time they knew each other but in his eyes, no one could be completely rotten.
Even if every time Bakura spoke brought more and more doubt he just hoped there was a bit of light left, no matter how faint.
“Then I won’t wonder about it, I’ll believe it. Even if it’s nothing more than my wishful thinking.”
Now that he mentioned it, it might just be true. Maybe it was his personal denial of the fact that not every person truly deserves even the slightest chance at happiness.
Or maybe it was his desperate wish that the spirit wasn’t as evil and twisted to his very core as he appeared to be.
God only knows.
The ghostly touch, if it can even be called that, left just the slightest chill running down his spine. As the boy watched the other come closer and listened to his words, he couldn’t help a sigh.
“…So the only sense of civility, the only reason I keep deluding myself is all just an act in the end?”
Guess he shouldn’t have expected more.
“You might say you’re only granting my desires, but aren’t you the one always twisting them?”
He ignored the remark of the true horrid nature of the granted wishes being his fault. No, Ryou could never wish for something as horrible and inhuman.
Or could he?
He had to shake his head lightly to chase away the doubt. If there is one thing he learned through all these years, that was the fact that letting Bakura’s words get to you can and most likely will be a grave mistake.
“ . . . Might ? “ he knew his host had a soft heart, but to even go as far and try to have hope for the spirit ? this had to be a joke. shaking his head, the spirit let out a sigh of his own. “ Even as simple wishful thinking, there is no point. The path has already been set; we’re just playing our roles. “ pulling away, he kept his sight hard on the boy, narrowing them as a frown was etched deeply onto his features. “ Do not blame me for what you wish for, and for your wishes to be vague. I grant them in more creative ways than one would normally get, and in ways I thought you would perhaps like. “ a scoff left him, the bridge of his nose scrunching up with a sneer. “ Again, you are my host. I am your shadow. I know you more than anyone ever could. I do everything I can to ensure your satisfaction; and despite all the cruel and inhuman things that had happened, I won’t abandon you unlike many others. I shall be here, waiting for your next wish, your next deepest desire. Because you are my host. “

“Mm. I feel like you’ve got it the wrong way round. I’m the one who tolerates you. Such as a parasite, it’s almost impossible to get rid of you. Haven’t you got someone else to bother?”
“ Is that honestly the best you can come up with ? Having to use someone else’s insult ? Tch . . . And here I thought you were more clever than that. Instead, you had gotten soft. Pathetic. “

Any humanity that I might have is only there to keep you satisfied. You are my host, after all; and what better way to keep you satisfied than to feed off of your desires . . . your wants and needs . . . and grant them. “ the dark spirit grew closer till his lips were right beside ryou’s ear, whispering breathlessly. “ I am nothing more than the shadows of your wishes. Think about that before wondering about who has humanity left in them. “
"Hey Ryou. Did Yugi leave one of his games at yours?"
for too long did he allow his own host to hang out with, not only the vessel, but with the very pharaoh himself. although, for this moment to occur, he knew that ruining it with his own presence would be a waste. oh, he would have to thank his host for allowing this moment to happen; after all, it wouldn’t be without him that the pharaoh would be this close to his predatory hold. the act would continue, whether his host allowed such or not; it was his turn to have his fun.
“ Ah, was he looking for it ? I was going to return it to him the next time I saw him. It should be in the other room. “ moving out of the way, inviting the other inside, he turned on his heel till he was facing away, unable to hold back the grin that had been wanting to form. there had been no way that it could be this easy. he should have done this ages ago. pausing for a moment, he turned his head, his expression quickly changing as if realizing something. “ Oh, perhaps you would want some tea and relax a bit before you would have to head back ? “
there was no point in hiding himself, especially when it was just the two of them. besides, it had been some time since he had been able to speak to the host that held the pharaoh’s soul herself. however, keeping in mind the silent promise he had made to his own host, he was prohibited from physically harming her. however, tormenting her mind was still possible. “ You act as if you are not happy to see me. Do I bother you that much ? “ although he mocked being in pain, there was still a grin wide across his face, a deep rumble of a chuckle deep in his throat. “ Relax, I’m not here to hurt you. I just wish to . . . talk. If it bothers you to talk to me, then . . . “
tilting his head up, a gentle smile transformed from the grin while the rest of his features grew soft. the chuckle had even grew to an innocent giggle. “ You can certainly talk to me, Yuugi. “ the tone was definitely lighter, quite different than how he had first approached her.

She listened to the words of the male all the while trying to figure out just where she may have seen the male before. From the color of his skin down to his accent, she could tell, like herself, that he had not always lived in Japan so that would make him stand out from a crowd, perhaps she had seen him on the streets of Domino City? a polite smile formed on her lips as she nodded in agreement to his possible explanation.
“Yeah, I guess you are right, sorry about coming up to you like that my curiosity sometimes makes me act without thinking about manners.”
With a nervous laugh, she rubbed the back of her neck at the thought of making herself seem like some kind of weirdo to just come up and ask a question like that though from his chuckle he seemed to find the funny side of it?
within his mind, he was cackling. although he was not acting exactly like his dear host, it proved that it wasn’t exactly needed. at least not at this time. spotting the smile upon her face assured him that his facade was working, continuing on with the amusing act.
“ It is not an issue. I can relate very well that it’s not every day you come across with someone with striking features; some that you did not know would make such an impact on your mind. “ letting out another short laugh, making it seem he had made a small joke, before finally resting a hand upon his chest in an apologetic manner. “ Ah, but where are my manners ? Let me finally help resolve the mystery that must still be running through your mind. You may call me Bakura. Ryou Bakura. It is a pleasure to meet you. “ to speak such kind words were difficult at first; yet he knew how much it would be worth the effort in the end. playing this off could help him further. “ Oh, and excuse me if this seems rude, but I do wonder, do you know of the game Duel Monsters ? I can’t help but say that you look like the Dark Magician Girl. “

The world had been known to prove itself just how small it was, after all. “ despite the fact that he had not quite faced her much in the past, he had sensed and known that this very soul was close to the pharaoh. any friend to the pharaoh was an enemy to him; yet if possible, he would always take the opportunity to turn them into his own pawns - and this chance was no exception.

Touzoku could feel the anger starting to boil inside of his spirit the closer the man came up to him and he really grew mad when the other dared to touch at his scar.

And yet he wondered how this male knew about his suffering?…Was he a survivor? There was no way. He was sure he was the last one alive.
surely he had not been this idiotic. how times have changed him indeed that it was almost pathetic for the spirit to witness. ignoring the fact that his hand was about to break off, he knew the shadows around them would protect him. why should he fear ? “ If you’re that much of an idiot to figure it out, even with all the damn clues, then it’s a wonder if I am actually wasting my time. “ he sneered, twisting his arm to get out of the other’s grip. “ Should I instead let you die to the Pharaoh ? Let you never experience victory ? As fun as that would be, I do care about your goal. Or is your goal no longer important ? Have you decided to change it, giving up what you have been fighting for after so many years ? “ eyes narrowed further, becoming dangerously sharper than before, dark red irises reflecting in any light source. “ If you must really know, then look deep into yourself. Into your heart. There’s darkness there, whether you deny it or not. It wants to spread. “ snarling lightly, he leaned in. “ It wants to help you, Touzoku. To be powerful . . . respected . . . feared . . . Anything else means nothing. Anything else will bring you down; make you weak. Let that darkness grow and help you, guide you to your victory. You want the pharaoh to pay for what he had done. To finally give him the justice he deserves. The shadows are waiting. Waiting for you to lead them. Will you ? Or will you let ‘love’ take you off that path of justice ? “
