like astrid clearly genuinely cares about caleb and thinks she’s a good person doing the noble thing, but she’s just so far gone by now that she sees caleb’s attempts at redemption & living with ethics as some kind of naive fairy tale. she’s both someone who believes they’re doing the right thing and someone who killed her parents and committed who knows what other atrocities.

i don’t think she was trying to manipulate caleb, or that she has ill will against him. i think she genuinely believed everything she said to him and wants the best for him, but her version of the best is very different from his.

it’s just sad. she’s probably done a lot of terrible, terrible things since she and caleb saw each other last. she’s probably in too deep to ever change her ways. it’s sad that a teenager who wanted to protect the people of the empire could turn out this way. it’s sad that she looks at caleb and sees someone who lost his way, instead of someone who’s trying to make things right.
