I don't teach, but I've held some lessons for kids, and let me tell you, it's really fucking tiring. As a student, you can fidget, stop paying attention for a bit, whatever. As a teacher, you don't get the luxury of relaxing for a minute. So yeah, be empathetic to teachers.

For the record, the guy actually invented this with the intent of it being used to crack down on human trafficking. Traffickers often cover their victims in heavy/unusual makeup before posting pics of them online, to make them harder to detect using normal software.

So basically this is a case of really shitty reporting. The article could have been about an app used to rescue victims of trafficking but they decided to flippantly make it about make-up

But why does it matter what's it for? Don't get me wrong, fighting human trafficking is important, but what I imagined first is that man going "hmmm... people look a lot different with make-up on... wait, what if I made an app that showed how they really look?" I mean doesn't this sound fascinating? Forget the social element, forget the dating culture, isn't that awesome that someone can think of something like that, and then build it? I think that this would be good news even of it wasn't used for detecting victims, because it shows the wonders technology can do.

My issue is less with the integers, but more with non-ordered fields. I think this implies that there are non-interesting complex numbers, for example.
