I am currently at a stage in my life where I am idle. I find myself wanting more out of life that is inclined towards my more creative side, as I focused these past years on very technical work and studies. And so if any of you are interested, I am opening writing commissions to help get a very small portion of my finances in order. I’m a little shy when it comes to these kinds of things because I’m not a very established writer, but I think it’ll motivate me to continue writing even on the sidelines because for the last couple of months I have been failing to make words my friend.

My works are usually oneshots, so I will not be writing any series since I’m very weak when it comes to writing complex plot lines. I’m open to writing in various styles, and I find that words flow the easiest when there is a specific theme, word or idea, alongside a genre.

Prices depend on length and the amount of research I have to put in but when I write, I don’t set up a word count goal, and just let the words flow. On my masterlist, the shortest I’ve written was 800+ words for safe haven and roughly 4k words for susurrus;aquiver. So pricing will depend on how well I think my writing turned out since I’d like to write things that you want and make me confident that it is quality writing. 

Below are my base prices just so you have an idea of how much I will charge.

Drabbles (Up to 500 words): 3 usd = 1 kofi

Oneshots: Anywhere from 5 usd to 15 usd 

Below are things that I will not write because I think that either I have no experience or knowledge on them, or because forcing myself to write about these things will result in work that I won’t be particularly proud of, and I like to keep my writing curated.

I am willing to write smut as I have written them in the past (though I’ve never published them because they’re very specific scenes that I’d like to incorporate into future works) though I find that my smut is very sensual rather than explicit. You may contact me for samples if you’d like.

I’ve said this to my non-techie friends countless times. It’s no secret that being able to code makes you a better job applicant, and a better entrepreneur. Hell, one techie taught a homeless man to code and now that man is making his first mobile application.

Learning to code elevates your professional life, and makes you more knowledgeable about the massive changes taking place in the technology sector that are poised to have an immense influence on human life.

(note: yes I realize that 3/5 of those links were Google projects)

But most folks are intimidated by coding. And it does seem intimidating at first. But peel away the obscurity and the difficulty, and you start to learn that coding, at least at its basic level, is a very manageable, learnable skill.

There are a lot of resources out there to teach you. I’ve found a couple to be particularly successful. Here’s my list of resources for learning to code, sorted by difficulty:

Novice

Never written a line of code before? No worries. Just visit one of these fine resources and follow their high-level tutorials. You won’t get into the nitty-gritty, but don’t worry about it for now:

Now that you’ve gone through a handful of basic tutorials, it’s time to learn the fundamentals of actual, real-life coding problems. I’ve found these resources to be solid:

Difficult

If you’re here, you’re capable of building things. You know the primitives. You know the logic control statements. You’re ready to start making real stuff take shape. Here are some different types of resources to turn you from someone who knows how to code, into a full-fledged programmer.

Programming problems

Sometimes, the challenges in programming aren’t how to make a language do a task, but just how to do the task in general. Like how to find an item in a very large, sorted list, without checking each element. Here are some resources for those types of problems

Web Applications

If you learned Python, Django is an amazing platform for creating quick-and-easy web applications. I’d highly suggest the tutorial - it’s one of the best I’ve ever used, and you have a web app up and running in less than an hour.

I’ve never used Rails, but it’s a very popular and powerful framework for creating web applications using Ruby. I’d suggest going through their guide to start getting down-and-dirty with Rails development.

If you know PHP, there’s an ocean of good stuff out there for you to learn how to make a full-fledged web application. Frameworks do a lot of work for you, and provide quick and easy guides to get up and running. I’d suggest the following:

Conclusion

If there’s one point I wanted to get across, it’s that it is easier than ever to learn to code. There are resources on every corner of the internet for potential programmers, and the benefits of learning even just the basics are monumental.

please note that my folders are currently empty of actual class work, I’ll update this after a week or two of classes to let you see what i looks like with actual work inside of it, as well as any changes I might make to the set up!

1. at the front of each of my lever arch files - two of which I picked up from Asda for £1 each and the other from Cath Kidston for £8 - I have a sheet protector folder. It is essentially  folder of sheet protectors but I plan on using it to store work that I’m planning to hand up, or those last minute handouts that teachers always seem to hand you as your walking out the door. This folder is to stop those very handouts from disappearing into the bottom of my schoolbag or getting lost among my other papers.

2. while I’ll be lucky enough to be supplied with an exercise book, I plan on taking additional rough notes down into this refill pad - these are all on offer at the minute! - and then writing them out good when I get home, but I plan on storing both copies of the notes in the back of the lever arch file.

3.I adore nothing more than dividers, they are an ESSENTIAL to get your folder organised. If you are using a folder for multiple subjects, then I suggest using different styles of binders to actually organise the subjects inside sub-sections. I have my binder divided into the following sections;

Important Information. Miscellaneous. Powerpoints. Handouts. Rough Notes. Re-Written Notes. Returned Work. Mindmaps. Homework. Essays.

4. You never know when these can come in handy. I have one for each lever arch file. I find these useful for when I need to print off handouts or work to put into my lever arch file but don’t want to carry it the whole way to the library or computer rooms - it’s a nice method of transporting documents to and from your lever arch. I highly suggest picking up at least a few, even for handing your presentation and essays up in, they look very professional.

5. Although I haven’t got the hard copy of my syllabus - but I have found it online - I have taken the liberty of looking at the school’s website and making a brief set of notes on each subject. I’ve focused on just the course content and the exam dates/format/time limits. If anyone would like to see a post on my note taking, feel free to drop me an ask.

6. When it comes to making out revision notes, I like to keep them short and sweet. The Oxford notebooks are my favourite and I’ve used them for years. Again, I have one of these for each lever arch file and plan on using them to take down well written, short and to the point diagrams, tables and notes to use at exam time and to help when eventually making my flashcards.

7. I’m the Queen of post it notes and pens! Here’s a tiny selection of the essentials I have for my binder. I’m in love with the post-it notes flags which read ‘on test’, 'study’ and 'to do’ these will be all over my binder - especially on my notes and mindmap sections but also my texbooks - then of course, we have my obsession with pens.
