Hot take: The least used part of Coriolanus' character in this fandom is how far of a disconnect his thoughts and actions have. I read a lot of fics where he's either flat-out insane or a conniving little political ray. Which he is. But he's both. He does act like he knows more than everyone and acts with that knowledge. He also flat out shot at a girl in the woods because of a snake. I fear this is the same ass guy 💔💔💔
I love writing romance as an aroace person sometimes. I like knowing I'm the chosen one. Do I have any idea what I'm talking about? No. But I have 1 too many references under my belt.
Best part of fanfiction is that you can make any of your headcanons into a fic they don't belong in. I know non-binary Sejanus belongs in modern au, I DON'T CARE. I want Sejanus to suffer gender dysphoria in the big 1813. It's MY fic.

🍭 - How did you get into writing?
Good question. This might me tmi, but oh well. When I was a small boy, I had a LOT of anger issues. I used to do some pretty violent stuff and felt good about it. However, I also realized that there were consequences. Slowly, I stopped hurting people, but I'm still an angry person and needed an outlet. My mom, the English major she was, introduced reading and writing as possible coping mechanisms. It does actually work. I get to "play god" when I write, and if I do, it well influences how other people feel.
Anyway, that's my story :)

I feel like Coriolanus' relationships are essentially his arc. Strangely, it's the people around him that motivate him. Dr. Gaul, Lucy Gray, Sejanus, Tigris, they all influence his actions in some way. The less he surrounds himself with good people, the more vile things he does. Once Dr. Gaul got in his head, he started acting on his more violent impulses. Everyone discounts how reactionary Coriolanus is.

I like to think that since she was an OBGYN that she was the one who delivered coriolanus. I also think that while she was odd, I don't think she was cruel until after the Dark Days. I just have the feeling that there was a reason why she was a teacher and doctor before she ever discovered war.

i have to ask bc its such a good question in terms of relating it to other themes, ive seen people say jesus/judas and cain/abel (two of my favs) theres just so much
These are both really good biblical examples. If you want what's in my noggin, then let me introduce you to my favorite romans. I feel like they fit Brutus and Cassius PERFECTLY.
Why, you may ask, not Brutus and Ceasar. Well, we'll get to that. Brutus is not only a traitor but an honest one. He was corrupted and lied to by Cassius and the other betrayers. He only dirtied his hands after being convinced that Ceasar would kill rome. Cassius is not only a traitor to Ceasar in this plot, but Brutus as well by lying to him.
I feel like this fits Sejanus and Coriolanus pretty well. Because in 12, Coriolanus betrays both Sejanus and the Capitol for his own gain several times. Sejanus, meanwhile, is convinced in the arena that he needs to let go and fight quietly. His convinced to betray his morals and his people for a short time.
Both Sejanus and Brutus died because they believed a lier.
