Yes, Inuyasha, Kagome taught you how to smile. She showed you how to believe in people. She was the reason you could make friends, and rely on those friends. To shed tears for others, to understand true strength and kindness…They’re all things you learned from her.
But you taught her as well. Taught her to be tough. Challenged her. Helped her to achieve the stronger, most confident version of herself. Showed her how to see the world in all its colors, not just black and white or naive rose. You were the reason she could make friends. Real friends, so far from the superficiality of school convenience. To leave her comfort zone, to enjoy a true adventure, to face the ugliest aspects of life and, nonetheless, keep going… They’re all things she learned from you.
Because you are right. Kagome was born to meet you.
Just as much as you were born for her.
One relationship dynamic that I loved to see and that is so underrated is Inuyasha and Shippo. I love how Inuyasha goes from bonking Shippo in the head and giving him a hard time, to calling him "great warrior Shippo" and giving him credit when he uses his fox magic. And Shippo goes from constantly pranking and teasing Inuyasha to looking up to him as a brave strong fighter. They're like the brothers they never had and I really enjoyed seeing how far they came in the series.
They really went a long way, didn't they? Although the bonking was sometimes excessive and the teasing could have been seen as insensitive once in a while, I did like their dynamic a lot. And I truly enjoyed to see their relationship develop.
You nailed it on the head when you said they're like the brothers they never had. And I think this is true especially in Inuyasha's case. Shippo might be a full demon, but he is also a orphaned child who has no one to resort to. It's safe to assume Inuyasha saw a lot of himself in that scared little boy trying to act brave and make it on his own.
So after Kagome left them no choice but to travel together, Inuyasha unconsciously brought upon himself the responsibility to be for Shippo the older brother he never had. Because he knew if Sesshomaru had been there for him the way he's trying to be there for Shippo, his life would have been vastly different.
And you can see this feeling not noly with Shippo, but with Sota and Bunza as well. There's a lot of tough love, but his soft side is very present too.
And the three boys all ended up, if not hero worshiping him, at least admiring and looking up to Inuyasha as a role model.
Which is why I'm positive he would have been a great father. And of course, his relationship with Shippo had its ups and downs. But most of their conflict comes from Inuyasha being hard on Shippo to tough him up (men don't cry) or Shippo being protective of Kagome's feelings. Both of them getting over their issues to build a relationship for themselves is what makes it so special.
My personal headcanon is that they grew the most closer during the three years in which Kagome was gone. She was obviously very important to each member of the Inugang in different ways and everyone dealt with her absence as best as they could. But Miroku and Sango were busy starting a family of their own. It's easier to move on with this kind of distraction.
Inuyasha and Shippo, though? For them it was a harder blow. She was a mother figure to Shippo and the love of Inuyasha's life. And remember: for a considerable amount of time, before Miroku and Sango came along, it was just the three of them. They would have understood each other's pain in a way the others couldn't.
And that unconditional support would have brought them together even more.
Me not watching Inuyasha: Naraku is such an unappreciated character. Not only does he parallel Inuyasha’s struggle with his fragmented sense of self & identity, but he also parallels Kagome’s struggle in that he is forced to play a role he does not want. We cheer Kagome for defining herself beyond Kikyou, yet we do not cheer Naraku when is doing the same thing - attempting to free himself from Onigumo’s heart and love for Kikyou; to define himself beyond the role the Jewel had intended for him to play. Ultimately, Naraku is a tragic and complex character who fails to ascend from the circumstances of his creation and is offered very little credit above a two-dimensional villain.
Me watching Inuyasha: KICK HIS A S S KAGOME
Kagome: Inuyasha kissed me. Sango: no! Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! Kagome: It’s unbelievable! Sango: oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! Ok, alright, I wanna hear everything. Get the wine and unplug the phone. Does this end well or do we need tissues? Kagome: oooh, it ended very well. Sango: alright, let’s hear about the kiss. Was it like… was it like, a soft brush against your lips or was it like a, y'know, “I gotta have you now” kinda thing? Kagome: well, at first it was really intense, y'know, and then… oh God, and then we just sorta sunk into it… Sango: oooh, so, ok, was he like holding you or were his hands like, on your back? Kagome: no, actually first they were… they started out on my waist… and then they slid up, and then they were in my hair… ___________________________________________________________ Inuyasha: and then I… and then I kissed her. Miroku: tongue? Inuyasha: yeah. Miroku: cool.

Shippo: Why is everyone staring at me?
Miroku: You just called Inuyasha "dad." You said "thanks, dad".
Shippo: What? No I didn't, I said "thanks, man".
Inuyasha: Do you see me as a father figure, Shippo?
Shippo: No, if anything I see you as a bother figure cause you're always bothering me.
Kagome: Hey! Show your father some respect!
Inuyasha + ESTP requested by @silverhairedhalfbreed
ESTPs are adaptable, realistic, good-natured, curious, impulsive, and like to solve problems. They are mentally tough and furiously dislike abstract thinking. Sometimes ESTPs’ instantaneous observation and action is just what’s required, as in some corporate environments, and especially in emergencies. When under stress, ESTPs tend to get moody, impatient, and frightened by future possibilities. (x)

rewatching the inuyasha series as an adult is so funny because. kagome higurashi does not get nearly enough credit for how strong-willed she was at the tender age of 18. she gave up her life in the modern era, easy access to good medical care, food, running water, electricity, and pretty much every other comfort that she'd known and been accustomed to all her life, and did it cheerfully. meanwhile if the roles were reversed and you stuck inuyasha in a modern office job, trying to send (1) polite email would have killed him on the spot.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of how when it comes to her feelings for Inuyasha, Kagome, this articulated, smart school girl who had no trouble expressing herself always goes simple like "I'm in love with Inuyasha. I want him to live and to laugh a lot. I want to be by his side even though I don't know what I'll be able to do for him and even if it hurts me sometimes because it's not a coincidence that we met and there's nothing I can do about the way I feel."
While Inuyasha, who is famously known for strugling with words and constantly putting his foot in his mouth, casually delivers straight up iconically poetic lines such as "Kagome is Kagome, there's no replacement for her", "somehow and without me even noticing, it feels so natural to have Kagome by my side", "when I'm with Kagome, I'm happy. She soothes my soul", "if that's what Kagome wants, I'll protect her with my life" and "Kagome was born to meet me and I was born for her as well" like he had just come out of a freaking Jane Austen novel.
things I adore about Kagome:
her refusal to let anyone police her reactions to things! (“Inuyasha: Don’t cry— K: Oh, should I laugh?” and “Koga, while kidnapping her: Stop screaming! Kagome: I’LL SCREAM IF I WANT TO!” Icon.
Her bravery and boldness— even while kidnapped, “Of course not! You’ve got sacred jewel shards jammed in your legs. You don’t get bragging rights if you’re cheating, you know.”) + “You’ve got a lot of nerve, kidnapping me like that. What do you want? What are you up to?”
Her saying, “Hit the mark!” when she fires an arrow.
Her strong sense of justice and righteousness.
Fights monsters on the regular but has nightmares/dreams about school and upcoming tests
Taught herself not only archery but also how to utilize her spiritual powers when firing her arrows
Talked her way out of the Thunder Brothers’ den with Improv
Pushed Manten off of his own cloud because he was trying to pitch in with Hiten’s fight with Inuyasha/team up on Inuyasha.
Doesn’t give a single fuck about the implications of time travel or bringing items from the present to Feudal Japan, including the bicycle she hauls up the well.
I love "i would kill for you" ship dynamics but what about "i would stop killing" ship dynamic??
I would lay down my sword for you. I would change my nature and go against everything i've known. I would resist the easy way out of solving my problems. I would give up the adrenaline of battle to stay by your side and make tea instead. I'm not sure I know who I am without a weapon in my hand because I've had to fight for so long but for you I'm willing to try and figure this out.
It must be hard. To put down your weapon that's protected you for so long. It's allowed you to stay alive it's kept you from getting hurt--physically and mentally. Because you've never had to worry about a real relationship if you think you'll be dead at the next battle. And you feel naked without it and it feels like you're ripping off an extension of yourself. Are you even whole without it? Are you worthy of being loved if you can't prove it by risking your life? And yet they've found someone who's asking them for something much harder than dying in battle on their behalf. They've found someone who wants them to live. And that's much more terrifying.
Kind characters are not boring; in fact, due to the vast amount of people who hold that opinion, kind characters are as edgy as it gets. In this essay I will
You know what, I’m not done! I think that the whole concept that kind characters are uninteresting and vanilla is such a broad generalization and takes kindness to mean lawful or goody-two-shoes, when there are so many ways for someone to a character to be kind.
Kindness does not require passivity or social grace. Kind characters can stick to their guns and stand up for what they believe in. They can yell and scream and curse. Kind characters can be angry and disappointed when others do not show them the same compassion they show others. Kind characters can be tactless, oblivious. They may be rough around the edges (but have a heart of gold).
Kind characters often value justice and strive to stay connected to their humanity, even when the things they must do threaten to strip it away from them. Kind characters sometimes have to make difficult choices. Sometimes, kind characters even behave in a way that is unkind.
Kindness is complex, and it’s only a single solitairy characteristic that contributes to a character’s personality. While it can absolutely present as soft-spoken, honest, and open-hearted (my personal FAVE), it certainly doesn’t have to be.
TL;DR Kindness is not boring

au where kagura actually takes kagome up on her offer to stay w the inugang and somehow doesn’t get killed by naraku
highlights:
kagura and sango not hitting it off AT A L L and constantly making snide comments at each other, leading to a serious fight followed by kagura admitting to helping kohaku when she could and sango gradually letting her defenses down
kagome mediating between sango and kagura when they get too heated
kagura SAVING SANGO IN A FIGHT but kagura denying wanting to save her and sango initially refusing to thank her but feeling guilty and thanking her anyways
kagome convincing kagura to fan her off on an especially hot day, the others extremely on edge the whole time
kagura adjusting to being on the ground and walking more and freedom to do what she wants when they’re relaxing
kagura smiling at the gang’s banter
kagome making a big deal out of said smile and kagura getting flustered, then still smiling when she falls back behind everyone else so no one can see
kagura fighting extra hard when kohaku is at stake, and taking on the role of his wine aunt when they get him back
mad one sided tension whenever sesshomaru shows up (and u know kagome picks up on it immediately)
Kagura getting flustered whenever Sesshoumaru comes by and Sesshoumaru acts like he doesn't notice but he totally does
Kagura totally owning InuYasha and Miroku with snide remarks and both men get flustered by her sassiness
Shippo initially is wary of Kagura but he slowly begins to trust her
Kagome is the one who is initially really kind and non-judgemental while the tachi slowly warms up to her
Kagura is able to connect with Kohaku in a way that Sango cannot and it's a huge source of tension between these two warrior women but ultimately Sango is grateful that Kohaku has someone who cares about him & someone who was genuinely concerned about his wellbeing while he was under Naraku's control
Kagura helps InuYasha in battles because her wind sorcery complements the wind scar so well
Eventually Kagura gets to tell Naraku off before he dies and has her redemption arc
Kagura is truly free to travel around after the battle with Naraku, but hangs out with her lil adopted bro Kohaku whenever he goes out traveling for his slayer gigs like an awesome wind sister.
Kohaku flying off with kirara and kagura flying by on her feather next to him
He always flies off first, which is a relief to kagura cuz she can turn to sango and say “we got this, trust me. he’s gonna be okay. i’ll make sure of it”
Kohaku secretly knowing that she does this but just smiles about it
Kagura bonding with Rin, and also giving her presents when she comes and visits the village
Kagura and Sesshomaru finally become a couple
Kagome being obsessed with Inuyasha's ears, relying on his canine instincts and overall just enjoying his dog-like quirks must be so important to him, despite his constant "objections" to her teasing.
Not only did she accept everything that marked him as different, she also loved him because of them and treated those characteristics with naturality rather than loving him despite of it and pretending they didn't exist.
No wonder Inuyasha felt so comfortable being completely himself around her.
