Wolf Worm by T. Kingfisher is just "The shit you put up with because YOU NEED THAT JOB" and I have never been more terrified by a Kingfisher book, to be honest.

Everyone is rightfully so worried when Rocky gets out of his Xenonite ball and nearly burns up in Grace's atmosphere. But consider: Rocky breathes in the air in the Hail Mary during his rescue attempt and catches whatever microbes and bacteria are flying around (which are totally harmless to humans but might be deadly to Eridians) and survives the burning but then dies of something like the common flu.

Getting a cursed doll and being able to excuse all the terrible things she does (not in a "I can fix her" kind of way, more like "I didn't even realize that was evil, we are all stressed sometimes") to the point where she eventually goes "Fuck, okay, I give up, I'm good now".
