While I normally leave such blatant bids for attention in Miss Serket's capable hands, all my schoolwork is done for the week and this place has been eerily quiet lately.
In short, I'm bored. Someone entertain me.

ROSE, YOU'VE BEEN COMING TO THIS CAFE SINCE DAY 1, AND I APPRECIATE THAT. YOU ARE LITERALLY THE ONLY SANE ONE WHO OCCUPIES SPACE IN MY PSEUDO-SANCTUARY. AND THAT IS OUTRIGHT FUCKING UNFORTUNATE. IS THERE ANY POSSIBLE WAY FOR YOU TO TALK TO EVERYONE ELSE AND PERHAPS TEACH THEM NOT TO BE SUCH BIG HULKING ASSWIPES? THIS IS A SERIOUS QUESTION, ROSE. I'M NOT EVEN FUCKING JOKING AT ALL.
As considerable as I like to think my influence is, I don't think even I have enough sway to keep our companions from being the group of irrepressible shenaniganizers that they are. That being said, I'm not sure I'd want to; our lives would be so much more banal without their particular brand of shitheadedness, wouldn't you say?
Does anyone actually place stock in serendipity?
Kanaya found herself lingering at the garbage can for a few seconds longer that she had intended as she gazed at the other girl from the corner of her eye. She bit her lip as she assessed her situation.
What should she do? Should she say hello? Should she ask for her name? Should she say anything at all? Would that be weird or out of the blue? Was it not already terribly obvious that Kanaya had been staring glances at her? If it was, then there was only one word to describe her behavior: creepy.
Kanaya let out a quiet sigh in exasperation. Why was she letting herself get so worked up? She was just a pretty girl in a coffee shopâno big deal. Plus, she could already feel Vriskaâs glares urging her to hurry up. She walked back, distractedly weaving through a few tables and chairs. She purposely approached the other womanâs table again, just to get another quick peek.
Of course, she should have known that was a bad idea. However, the notion did not occur to her until her hip bumped a book that sat at the edge of the table and knocked it to the ground. Kanaya stood there, feeling completely mortified and totally unsure if she should pick up the book or flee the scene.
"Oh goodness, Iâm so sorry."
Rose had been very studiously ignoring the woman's approach, so when she felt the clatter of her book tumbling from her table she startled a little, looking up in surprise. Oh her eyes are a very pretty shade of green. She swallows hard, barely hearing the woman's apology as she stares wide-eyed. Realizing she's probably supposed to say something, Rose scrambles for words.
"O-oh, no, that's quite alright."
She's blushing furiously, she can feel it, so she leans down to retrieve the book and replace it on the table, this time safely away from the edge. Anyone else and she would've sent them along with a glare and perhaps a bit of deadpan snark about the offender's intelligence, but now she's all fluster and reassurance? This is getting ridiculous, Lalonde.
"There, no harm done. Don't worry about it."
Yup. Really fucking smooth.
"Oh yes Rose, youâve figured me out! I want every grimy, little detail you can tell me," you say jeeringly. "I must be aware of everythingabout a guy I talked to for ten seconds.â
Your mind goes to opening night of the show. Youâre elate for it! Playing for yourself is nice but thereâs something very different when you have a crowd to listen it. Well, youâre hoping thereâs a crowd⌠even a little one. Is there such thing as a little crowd?
"Do you have any idea how many people are coming for the show? I mean, Iâm not sure if youâve heard anyone say theyâre coming?"
"Karkat has mentioned a generally positive response to the idea of a show, and I've overheard a few other patrons discussing the event with the seeming intent to attend. Never fear, you won't be playing to an empty room."
You might throw a small tantrum if that ends up happening--or at least, want to throw one and then surround yourself in an extra layer of defensive snark instead. You know the three of them will be a hit, as long as there are people to hear them--and Karkat has even spoken of a few other people asking about performing themselves.
"When was the last time you played in front of a group that wasn't at least three-quarters friends or family members? Are you nervous?"

yeah whatever helps, im just not entirely-Â
You hold your hand against your mouth as a queezy feeling twists in your stomach, and no itâs nothing like butterflies. It felt vile, and gross and ready to come out.
Once you make your way up off the couch, your legs gave out on you as you began to vomit on the carpet away from Rose, on your hands and knees, you couldnât help but tremble after vomiting twice, a little sob escaped your lips as the bad taste in your mouth made you want to throw up again.
rose helpâŚ
You cough as your hand clenched at the shirt above her stomach.
Oh gods, Jade, are you alright? Here--here, let's get you to the bathroom, we can clean that up later.
You rub her back in slow circles until she can get up, setting your other hand on her shoulder to guide her carefully into the bathroom and letting her sit on the tiled floor. You crouch down and set the glass of water next to her, internally flailing a bit. I'm not entirely sure what to do next, I'm afraid. Is there anything I can get you? You really, really don't know what to do; any time your mother threw up she insisted on dealing with it herself and any time Dave threw up he locked himself in the bathroom until he was well again so you have very little experience taking care of someone in such a state.
Does anyone actually place stock in serendipity?
Kanaya couldnât help but feel a bit⌠antsy. After all, the only conclusions she could make about the odd girl was through quick peeks and, although she had made enough of those to create awkward atmosphere, she was dying to get a closer look. Kanaya couldnât help but feel that her curiosity was rather oddâeven for her. Nevertheless, she couldnât stop thinking about the girl sitting a few tables away.Â
Kanayaâs eyes darted around the table as Vriska rambled on and on, desperately trying to find an excuse to at least walk by. She found her chance when Vriska announced that she was too lazy to throw away her napkins.
"Here, let me do it," Kanaya said, maybe a bit too eagerly, as she reached over to grab Vriskaâs trash.
Rose's eyes went wide when the woman stood up and started moving in her direction, and she stared very intently at her page without actually reading any of the words. What if she's coming over to talk to her what will she say how does one converse with strangers this is why she used to make all of her friends online. For a moment she is in the grips of mindless panic.
Until the woman walks past her to discard a handful of napkins in the garbage can, and Rose berates herself. Stupid, stupid, presumptuous and vain. A beautiful woman like that would have absolutely no interest in her, she's just a strange and unsociable child, a stranger in a coffee shop. This woman won't give her the barest thought once she's out of view.
She can't help but look, though. She's captivated and she's not sure why, but it makes a not-entirely-unpleasant fluttery feeling take up residence in her insides every time she sets eyes on the stranger.
L. Frank Baum, The Marvelous Land of Oz
You know the look on Roseâs face means nothing but trouble. You look away from her and back at your keys, turning a bit pink.
"Wow Rose, didnât know it wasnât ok to ask your buddy if their employer might be an ax murder or something without being accused of alternative motives!" you say, trying to laugh it off. The question feels odd and out of place in your mind. You donât think such things are meant to be lingered on.Â
"You must have found some sort of interest in him if youâre getting this far into his brain already," you continue, trying to lead the conversation away from awkward territories. Rose is great, but you worry sometimes about how deep she tries to get in peopleâs heads. Sheâs usually right and has a lot of good insight, but sometimes she makes something out of nothing and you have to do back flips over it to prove it.
After a moment you busy yourself with what you came here for- testing the piano.Â
"Why, John? Would you like the grand tour of Karkat Vantas' psyche? Maybe get a little...how-you-say...inside information?" You give him a wicked grin as he shakes his head at you and flexes his fingers, then sit quietly for his warm-up song, a smooth piece you recognize from years of listening to him play. You can pick up tiny imperfections in the piano's tone, but not enough to be a problem; everything will be just fine for the performance.
While he plays you look around, silently approving of the slight alterations to the decor Karkat has made--the strings of tiny coloured lights lining the walls were a very nice touch. You can tell John already likes the place--you'll have to find out Dave and Jade's opinion before the show itself.
