She looked up at him, very worried that apparently someone else had set him on fire.

Then it finally felt like it clicked.

“Wh – Like, like with their abilities?” she asked, suddenly a lot more interested. “There’s been other people who set things on fire?”

He was smiling, but he made a bit of a face at the use of a title. “I suppose I’ll have to get used to being call that now,” he said, as if it hadn’t been something he’d been thrilled about an hour ago. It just felt strange when it came from Charles. Maybe they hadn’t met until now, but they’d known each other a long time.

“Well, I suppose it’s rather difficult to have already run the country into the ground. But your confidence is appreciated, none the less.” He smiled, maybe just edging on flirtatious. “I suppose we’ll never know now if you would’ve been a better ruler than me.”

He laughed softly. “Yes, I’d imagine you will. Don’t you like the sound of it?” Maybe teasing just a little. Charles knew he’d have a difficult time adjusting to something like that. 

He tilted his head, watching Charles curiously. “You’re not unimportant,” he said. “I care more about your opinion than the majority of the people here.”

“I would be a rather poor excuse for a king if I completely dismissed every opinion that differed even marginally from mine.”

He blinked, very surprised to hear that. “Well, I- I’m very flattered, my lord.” He added on at the end, remembering to be respectful.
