“I came baring jello and ice cream – chocolate as requested by the patient. Sorry brains you’ll have to get your own” – brains it slipped out before she even thought about it – “sorry – Perry. Oooh what’s that you got? Did Perry get you that? that’s pretty damn cool – he even comes with a shield for you! Captain Polly!” Callie laughed, trying to distract from the fact she’s called Perry brains – a cute little ‘bit’ they had with each other when they were together. 

“Smart little cookie ain’t you Pol” she grinned affectionately at the little girl, before turning back to her mother.  She could see how worried the Brunette was even though she was trying hard to appear calm, Perry could read Callie like a book.  “I do actually have something to do and thats be right here with my favorites-- favorite” she blushed clearing her throat. “ Now then, sharing is caring little lady am I getting a spoonful” she asked Polly. Perry didn't even like jello in fact she hated, and she was sure Callie probably knew that but this was a pathetic bid to remain nonchalant after her slip.

Callie was sat wading through a mountain of paperwork when her cell buzzed, she grabbed it to see Marina’s name flash up on the screen; Polly’s nanny, “Hey – is everything okay? Is Sofia okay? – –  I thought you weren’t coming in to the clinic until 4 – – okay, don’t worry Marina, I’ll be right there, it’s just this virus thing, she’ll be okay but you did the right thing – – okay I’ll be there in 5 okay?” Callie hung up the phone grabbed her lab coat and made her way down to the clinic, Sofia’s temp had spiked again and Marina had rushed her in earlier just to be on the safe side. 

The clinic was swamped when she got there, one of the nurses directed her to her daughter and Marina, “Hey sweetie, you not feeling so well honey? Tell Mami what hurts the most?” she said softly brushing Polly’s hair from her face and feeling her forehead, “Oh sweetie you are burning up, are you thirsty?” Callie was worried, it wasn’t like Polly to be sick, and her temp was through the roof, “everywhere Mami – everywhere hurts, I feel like someone forgot to puts the heating off in my brain.” Polly mumbled. Callie sat down on the edge of the bed went in for a hug, “I know sweetie, but Dr Edmond is going to have a look at you and take some blood to see what’s going on inside, is that okay? – – and afterwards Perry is gonna come see you, how does that sound? You’ve missed Perry haven’t you kiddo?” Callie explained, “NO! No bloods – please Mami it hurties like being stung with a sharpy yucky bee sting.” Polly protested, “I know sweetie, but we have let Dr Edmond take them or we won’t know what medicine to give you to make you feel better Polly - – what about we get you some Jell-o and ice cream after?” Callie pleaded, “FINE! But it better be chocolate – – and three scoops.” Polly added. 

Perry was all too aware how much she missed spending time with the little girl, nearly as much as she missed the little girl’s mother and that was a pain that sometimes in the beginning felt so bad she struggled to get out of bed in the morning. Lately she had been doing better when she was in the hospital, she  hadrebuilt the walls the Latina had knocked down and  learned to put on a face when she walked through the doors each morning. She was confident that most people thought she was over the break up now.

Stepping up behind Polly she put her hands over her eyes and whispered in her ear. “Hello my little beauty. I heard you aren’t feeling too good” “Perry its you! Mami said you coming to see me. I wasn't sure though because I’ve not seen you in sooooo long. Where have you been?” 

Sitting down on the bed she pulled Polly on to her lap. “Well darlin I’ve been so busy here, lots of people need their brains fixed. Will you forgive me?” she asked tucking a strand of loose hair behind her ear. “Yes I forgiver you” “You are saint” Perry chuckled wrapping the little girl in a hug. “Mami says you aint feeling to great. Why don’t you look at the present I’ve brought you while I have a look at your notes okay?” Perry picked up the little girls file and glimpsed over it. Her temperature was alarmingly high but it didn't look like Dr Edmounds hadn't got her bloods back yet. “Back in a second Pol” she explained heading in the direction of the nearest nurse.

“Hi can you please phone the lab and ask for Dom, tell him that Dr Corbin needs the results of the patient in bed four back asap. If he puts a rush on it then he’ll have Seahawk tickets by the end of the day. Thanks” she smiled politely and headed back in the direction of Polly. So what if she pulled some strings this little girl was important and nobody needed to know. 

A LOT.

She took another large gulp before continuing,”I bet you are, all that lying must be real tiring, huh? – – I mean Jesus Perry, how stupid do you think I am? The woman practically has your name, I mean did you not think I might put two and two together and get oh I dunno, four!” Callie laughed, she was seething, and the laugh was not one a joviality.

“I don’t even know why I came here I thought  – – I thought – – maybe, just maybe you’d come clean, if I gave you the chance, to explain or whatever, but you would have just kept lying to, wouldn’t you? I mean who the hell tells people their Mom is dead? that is sick – –” Callie shook her head, trying to read into what Perry was thinking, usually she could read her like a book, but she was struggling today. She had no idea what was going on inside the blondes head right now. And Callie would give anything just for a second in her head just to know what the hell she was thinking.

Perry pushed her fingenails in the palm of her hands. When she realised she had broken the skin she reverted to chewing on her bottom lip anything to distact her from the conversation she was about to have. It was sadly apparent she couldn’t avoid it any longer but Perry really had no idea how she was going to explain to her girlfriend that a woman she had previously said was dead is now strolling around the hospital.  Using the excuse of a medical miracle was out the window what with her girlfirneds occupation she might see through that. As was reincartion , she may love Jesus but Marrisa Corbin was nothing like him.

Lifting her head she let out a sad chuckle at Callie’s question “Would I? Callie I know nothing about that woman apart from shes a bitch and I came out of her womb. Just like she knows nothing about me. I could tell you more about my scrub nurse’s mother than my own. So no Cal in actual fact I  wouldn’t know”  she said rolling her eyes.
