2018 gave me Henry. It made me a mother. It made Aj a dad. It made us realize how selfish we both were and how selfishness has to be thrown out the window when you have kids. We both got better at our paying jobs. We both stumbled on how to parent. We both struggled balancing time for each other as well as time for ourselves as well as time for our family. I mastered French press coffee. I have laughed so hard I cried. I got to celebrate October 9th again. I survived camping with an infant when it was literally freezing. I’ve learned how to bake during nap time. I’ve studied way more than I ever thought I would about Harry Potter wand woods. I haven’t read nearly enough books. And I have discovered I love to walk through neighborhoods.

2018 was a good year. A hard, great, unreal at times year.

So what does 2019 bring?

My hope it will bring stronger friendships, financial stability, stronger legs, tinier waists, lots of books with lots of coffee. I hope my little family will take the time for adventures so not only are we doing something new but we are doing it together. I hope Aj and I find time to just be together, sitting on the couch phones away and talking, playing a board game; even pausing the game to go to bed and finishing it later, waking up in the mornings together and enjoying quiet time before Henry wakes up. I hope we go on family walks, dogs included. I hope I train my dogs better. And above all of this, I hope I remember to make time for the Lord.

I have found myself praying while I’m in the car but that’s about it. I need to make more time and be present. I need to dive into his words and surrender to his plan. I thought I was listening but I could be better.

Only the Lord knows what 2019 holds for me and my family. I’m looking forward to it.
