Biography:
Sebastian Rhodes grew up in the heart of san verano with his parents and two siblings, one younger, and one older. a typical middle child seb always felt a little distant from the rest of his family, he wasn't the baby of the fam who got all the attention like his little sister, but he wasn't the confident older kid like his brother, he was just, somehwere in the middle.
Growing up Seb struggled to find anything that interested him, he hated playing out with the neighborhood kids, he sucked at most subjects in school, but he did like to watch tv.
It started out with him being firmly planted in front of the television watching morning cartoons, and then he discovered a love for movies. His dad was a film buff, so had a fairly huge collection of old vhs tapes that Seb often binged, and didn't take long for the classics to pique Seb's interest, quickly finding he had a real love for the horror or mystery genre.
He'd often sneak out of his room at night and watch all the films he was never usually allowed to, volume light to avoid waking his parents, but Seb still managed to enjoy himself.
His favorite thing to do was try to work out 'who did it' before he finished each movie, and most of the time he was on point with his suspicions. all seb ever wanted to do was sit at home and watch movies, and then once he was old enough he'd spend the rest of his free time at the movie theatre, which didn't leave him with much time for anything else.
Once he started high school seb struggled a little with it all, most of his classmates already thought he was a little weird anyway so making friends was hard, but the fact that he had zero real social skills didn't help either. all he did was talk about movies, and what he had watched, and that didn't exactly appeal to everyone.
so after some tough love from his more socially experienced siblings (most of which came from them not wanting to be associated with the weird horror nerd) he put his movie buffness on the back burner, and started branching out.
it worked for a bit and seb did find he had skills in other departments, he was funny, naturally, and this graviated some people towards him, he had a talent for some sports once he started skipping gym, but his real skill came from his writing. he excelled in english class, and for once in his life, seb finally had an attainable, realistic career path in mind, he wanted to become a writer.
after high school he went to nyu for a couple of years and got his degree in literature and creative writing, with his own takes on the horror and mystery genre getting quite a lot of attention over time, but never quite settling on one idea long enough to finish an entrie novel.
After college seb struggled to find a job, and jumped around a few places, relying mostly on his parents money to get by. Until he finally settled in at one of his favorite spots in the entire city and somehwere he spent a lot of his childhood, san verano cinema.
His parents weren't exactly thrilled with their son's choice of workplace, but knew they would never win an argument with him over it, so continued to fund whatever the job they deemed a little crappy wouldn't. Hoping maybe one day they'd get lucky and he'd get published, and make all that money back, they had serious doubts though.
Wanting to feel somewhat mature and independant Seb made sure he got some choice in where he lived and a couple of years back answered an ad online from some guy looking for a room mate.
He met devon and the two eventually hit it off, enough to warrant living together anyway. the place was huge, and seb's parents were happy to help him out with his half of the rent(as long as he wasn't at home with them, they didn't care much) and after a couple of months Seb sort of grew to really like his new home, even spending some time with his much cooler roomie, Devon.
Devon would take him out, show him all the best places in town and show Seb how to be a normal twenty something in New York, and Seb would pay it back in his own way by forcing his roomie to watch every horror film and classic movie Seb deemed 'a must see'.
After a coupel of months Devon pitched the idea of the podcast to Seb, assuming his love for a good 'mystery' would help and he thought it sounded like a great idea, at first only coming on to help his room mate research it all properly, but once Sebastian got behind the mic, he was like a whole different guy.
The awkward, shy, insecure movie nerd sort of disapeared, and Seb was in his element talking about true crime and all those crazy, sometimes graphic details almost as easily as he could spout out the plot of one of his movies.
The podcast became a sucess and Devon and Sebastian became a sort of partnership, but the work did take it's toll on their relationship and in recent years they'd grown apart. Often disagreeing, even arguing over what direction to take the 'show'.
Prior to devon's passing seb had even taken a few days off from living at the apartment just to clear his head a little, moving in with a friend, never expecting to come home to police tape and an entire crime scene.
He knows how suspicious it all looks, and as much as they had their fallings out in his roomie's final months, Sebastian Rhodes would never even dream of doing such a thing, and as much as he loves a good murder mystery, he never thought he'd be living one.
Other Stuff(Head Canons):
His parents are super rich but act as if they aren't. In a similar way Sebastian never talks about how he grew up, not wanting for much, and to look at him, unless you knew, probably wouldn't expect him to be a typical rich kid.
He hates the name of the podcast and always has, but knows that Devon would have never changed it, since it was his idea in the first place.
He debated staying uncredited, or using an alias at first with the show but knew it would have been a bad idea in the long run.
He has been working on his debut novel since his final year of University but cannot come up with a good enough ending for it.
He loves love, and is constantly trying to find 'the one' but most of his dates don't get past the first, and the only relationships he's had have ended in disaster.
He can't stand most of Devon's friends, but would never admit it, always finding an excuse to be out of the apartment whenever they come over.
His (current) letterboxd top four are Halloween(1978), The Thing, When Harry Met Sally & Toy Story 2.
Wanted Connections
Exes/Hookups/Flings: He's a hopeless romantic with an inability to keep anything going long. he's been very unlucky in love but he's always willing to get back up and try again.
Mom Friend: He's smart in his own ways but still makes mistakes, so may need someone to keep him on track and advise him against all the stupid shit he does.
Best Friend: A ride or die, someone who has maybe stood by him through all his weirdness,
Enemy: He's not everyone's cup of tea, so he's bound to have a few people out there who aren't too fond of him, maybe someone who doesn't like the podcast, or had beef with him because of devon.
anything tbh.
