The Mubali project connects pregnant Aboriginal young women with midwives and elders. It was started by community arts organisation Beyond Empathy (BE) in Moree in 2004 and has since been implemented in Bowraville, Armidale and the Illawarra (NSW), Logan (QLD) and Derby and Fitzroy Crossing (WA). Mubali means pregnant in the Gamilaroi language of north-west NSW. Mubali has morphed into Sea of Bellies ... Have a look at this is a great little book http://ow.ly/o0JrV aimed at Mums, Dads and bubs which has been produced by the Logan Woodridge Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service called Deadly- Growing Strong. The photographs in this book are of some of the babies celebrated in the belly casts also depicted in the book. The images have been captured over the last two years by Graduate of Queensland College of Art and Beyond Empathy leader since 2006, Raphaela Rosella (http://www.facebook.com/raphaela.rosella) This publication has been supported in 2013 by a partnership between the Queensland Regional Arts Development Fund and Logan City Council aimed at the sustainability of local arts and culture.
