Sometimes after several months of sand build-up during the summer months, a new swell can result in the most epic body surf sessions, here on the north shore. This was one of the craziest that I have seen. I called this picture; "Blue Teepee".

Mahalo Mei, who drove over the island to pick up this beautiful 30 x 46 inch canvas of Pipe Shadowland, which I printed up on Epson’s exhibition canvas and donated to Kamehameha Schools. This morning's partial solar eclipse, happened here in Hawaii, about an hour after the sun rose and was in its fullest effect around 7.15am. Unfortunately, the eclipse was extraordinarily bright. So much brighter than expected, that the camera sensor had a hard time, capturing the actual eclipse, itself. This was the best that I was able to do with what we had before the sun went behind some clouds.

We are currently transitioning from the summer season to the winter season here in Hawaii and it's just been so beautiful and calm during this process. We've had at least a couple of weeks of almost no trade winds, which results in perfectly glassy conditions for photographing the waves. This location, I've only ever photographed a few times, but I like it because of how close one is to seeing the sun from inside the tube. It makes for some incredibly great looking waves. This picture, I named Amber Kiss.
