I swear I don’t remember hearing about NAIDOC until I went to Carnarvon in my 20s and it was happening the very week I was there visiting Carnarvon High School. I feel like the public education system failed me there because it’s existed since 1975. Years before I was born. And it took over 2 decades to hear about it. As an adult I continue to learn far more about Indigenous culture and history (and the atrocities committed against them) than I did in school even when we had lessons about Indigenous Australians.

It's because we teach the invasion like America teaches theirs: like some lovely peaceful exchange cultures as opposed to the slaughter, rape and eradication that ACTUALLY happened.
