But anyway I can finally post this story somewhere now that I’m back. In the winter we were the only place to eat at the ferry landing. Then it’s a 20 minute drive across the island into town.

So we were first stop a lot of people made getting to the island and the last stop before they left.

Meaning I made lattes for a lot of very overwhelmed people who got the timing wrong and missed their boats.

So one day these two guys came in wearing suits, apparently having had some uncharacteristically formal business in town. They missed the last ferry of the night and needed a place to stay. So I looked at our available rooms and saw the only one left was a king.

I’ve never even once in my life read this trope but it’s become such a staple in the internet lexicon that the importance of the words I was about to say still weighed on me like the globe upon Atlas.

I was overthinking it because I was like what if I say this in a way that’s weird and detached from reality like I ship real human beings and then they’d think I’m weird and detached from reality

And then I got into a whole thought loop about it in the most OCD scruples way possible but I did finally manage to say in an extremely normal way, “we have a single room left, but there’s only one bed.”

And then they said “oh that’s fine one of us can sleep on the floor!”
