my biggest gripe with dr3 (my favorite installment of danganronpa, in all honesty) is how mukuro is treated, especially because of how it impacted how the fandom sees her. nobody seems to remember that junko AND mukuro were the despair SISTERS. junko never acted alone. in fact, if it weren’t for mukuro and junko feeding into each other’s despair, I doubt they would’ve gotten as far as they did. people make mukuro out to be another victim of junko’s despair, but fail to recognize that SHE also was an ultimate despair. THEY were the ultimate despair. it just so happens that junko became the face of it due to mukuro preferring anonymity. I can’t entirely blame the fandom, though, because the way that her character is handled in dr3 is so terrible that it kind of makes you want to ignore her entirely 😭 the only scene I really she HER in is the one where she and peko are fighting

Would it be too much to say that Mukuro haunts the narrative? She's built up as this big scary enemy, constantly name-dropped as this big mystery to solve, only for you to find out she's been dead for weeks. Her absence is felt. The 16th seat, for the 16th student, who is nowhere to be found. Killed off in chapter 1, yet you keep finding out new things about her all the way into the ending. Mukuro Junko was so... likeable. How much of that was an act? How much was her doing an impression of her sister? Especially since when you meet her sister, she doesn't act like Mukuro at all. She's essential to the game's plot, yet you only ever see the real Mukuro in old pictures. She doesn't have any sprites where she's not either hiding herself, or dead. The real Mukuro is unknowable. By the time you open Schrodinger's box, she's always already dead.
