Harmony looked up at Iris' cry. The dark shape in the sky was unmistakable, and it sent her heart up into her throat. She left the side of her garden and walked to the clearing close to her home. By the time she reached it, Hiccup had already dismounted. Iris bolted for Toothless, wings flared and fins trembling with her excitement. Comparatively, Harmony moved much slower toward the Night Fury's rider.
Her hand touched his chest first to confirm that he was real. It then slid upwards to cup his cheek. Harmony gazed at him, mouth hovering open. With her long silver hair unplaited and bright blue eyes shining, she really did resemble her beloved dragon — some mystical creature made from both lightning and sea whose harsh environment had not robbed her of her gentleness.
❝I missed you,❞ Harmony said softly. She pressed her forehead to his breast and breathed him in. ❝It hurt this time ... to not have you.❞ Usually, her voice was so strong and clear, colored by an accent that belonged to a faraway land. Before him now, though, it quivered, warped with the swell of emotion she felt. Harmony didn't know if she would survive the next good - bye — but did she have any choice when these reunions were all she lived for ?
Hiccup was grateful to have already been off of Toothless by the time Iris made her way over to the Night Fury. He feared if he was even remotely attached any longer, he'd be missing another portion of his body with how little attention Toothless paid attention to anything but his lady love.
Though, he'd be lying if he said he didn't mimic the same type of tunnel vision the moment he laid his eyes upon his own.
As grand it was to feel Harmony in his arms once more, Hiccup's heart shattered when he hears her admission. He'd known their separation was unpleasant, but hearing her utter the fact it'd hurt her this time was almost unbearable. He knew he loathed the distance and began to realize that most days he was planning when he could see her again, but to know the distance affected her like this was too much.
With a gentle sigh, he leaned his head down and pressed a kiss to the top of her silvery mane.
"I'm sorry, Harmony. I didn't mean for it to take so long to come back," he whispered into her bright locks. Closing his eyes, he remained as they were, focusing on nothing more than breathing her in and holding onto her as if letting go would mean she'd be gone once more.
If anything, the not-so-irrational fear made his arms tighten mindfully around her.
"I've missed you so much," he choked out as he moved to kiss her temple.
