Friday, 4/8/2016
On Friday, we had to continue the conference. I went to the first hour and then went to practicum to do some things for WJSU-FM. I recorded my show and also recorded another show for Sunday as well.
Later, we had a banquet and our keynote speaker was DeMarco Morgan, who gave a wonderful, brief speech on never giving up and some key things to do while we are in school. Very informative and very nice. By the end of the night, I need up recovering two awards for being an announcer for WJSU-FM and for being apart of the newscast for TigerTV.
On Sunday, I ended up going to 97.7, The Beat of the Capital, and was able to actually be on air with Ms. Germaine. It was amazing!
Then, I cut and played down the tracks for my air check, the music that I was previewing and I also played down the tracks for my actual voice with one of my commercials.
Update week of 3/27
I forgot to post this week, but I can give a brief overview of what happened. I was able to work with WJSU-FM in their editing software called Adobe Audition again, and actually got to start laying down some tracks for my Air Check that I will be hopefully, fully starting to record, this weekend. I did the finishing touches to how everything is going to be said and done, so that’s exciting.
I also was able to see the producing software they use that actually generates the music for the whole radio show, which was pretty cool. Literally the computer does all the work for you, you just go back and check and change what you want, and in literally 3 seconds it sends to the computers so when you go record your show, everything is all there.
In JSU-TV, I watched JaMicheal edit some more, this time, a sports edition piece with a classmate of mine.
I got the chance to speak with Rob Jay, and we have some fun things to get started on next semester in hopes of getting me some reel for my self.
Today (4/7) and tomorrow (4/8) is our conference day, so I will attend those and have already attend today, so I won’t be doing much with my sites I don’t believe. But I’ve had a great semester and I can’t wait to utilize what I’ve learned this year in internship next semester.
Monday, 3/21
At Jackson State University, we just got back from Spring Break, and we’re getting back into the swing of things. I came to WJSU-FM early to make sure everything we set for later at 3PM, and Meredith Hairston had a quick job for me to do- cover an announcer’s show.
I got to cover Dwayne Doty’s “Jazzmatic Afternoons” from 2-4PM and did it fairly quick. It only took me about 15min. Hairston told me today I will continue to work on my air-check.
In JSU-TV, I actually recorded my March Women’s History segment for Rosa Parks, but did an audio portion this time. This time, I got to edit the project myself though. I learned how to do scaling and positioning, blurring effects for 2 layers, and key freeing to do visual effects. We will continue working on them again.
In WJSU, I just went over my air check and got the reasoning for writing commercials. I wrote, what I thought was a commercial, buts actually a break because it was too conversational. Sometimes it’s hard to switch between radio and TV but so far I’m doing a pretty decent job.
Friday 3/11
Today, due to Meredith Hairston being out of town I was not able to record my announcement for Women’s History Month, but I was able to record the radio segment for 3AM-6AM.
We will record my TV segment when I get back from Spring Break, on that Monday. Also, I will be finalizing my air check on Monday as well so I can start laying down my 2 commercials and get the ball rolling with my reel for radio.
Over the break I will continue to work only face and voice for tv, as I will be blogging trying to work my voice in different ways while I’m in San Francisco, CA.

Monday, 3/7
Today, I didn’t meet with JSU-TV, and I didn’t get to record my 2 announcements for March Women’s History Month, but I did do a lot with WJSU-FM.
I didn’t record my 3AM-6AM, but I did get to see the audio recording software through the Adobe Suite software and play with it. I am now in the process of making my own show. I have up to 5 minutes for the spot and I have to come up with my own commercials, breaks, tagline, call numbers, and music selections. I am working with Meredith Hairston and Ms. Jermaine on this project so I can have this in my reel for radio.
Friday, 3/4
Today I didn’t meet for JSU-TV, but did get to film with Mr. Keith Collins for the March Women’s History Month program we have for WJSU-FM. It didn’t take me long to film them, since I have practice in such, but will still work on camera presence as always.
For WJSU-FM, I recorded my 3AM-6AM Show and was told to work on more people for the Women’s History Month.
Monday 2/29
Today, I wasn’t able to meet with JSU-TV either, due to JaMichael being out, but I did meet with WJSU-FM and I was able to record my March Women’s History Month segment with Rob Jay. I did it very quickly and everyone was pleased. I will be doing this every week until the month is up.
Today when I recorded my show, I was told to be timed to see how long it takes me to finish everything. It took me 15min. to cover 3 hours. So that’s really good! I am excited with how I am doing with my studies so far. And even though I haven’t been with TV, I have been working on my face and eyes to keep looking lively.
Friday 2/26
I didn’t meet for JSU-TV but for WJSU-FM, I got to do the 3AM-6AM show again, and I am getting better with learning my voice and doing highs and lows. I am also going to be filmed for the March Women’s History Month in doing a special person or 2 every week in highlighting their accomplishments. I write the script myself and Meredith Hairston will edit it, and Rob Jay or JaMichael will record it for me. I am doing the same for next week as well until the month is out. I will also be able to do my own radio show with my own music and I cannot wait!
Friday. February 19.
Today at JSU-TV, I shadowed JaMichael with editing and we spoke on a few different formats. Just a chill day, for this time. Towards the end, he told me starting next week we will start on my digital reel so I have to come dressed appropriately from now on. Which today was the first day I didn’t, but anyway, so by the end of Spring Break, I will have something to show for myself. We will be doing stand ups and reads with the prompter.
At WJSU-FM, I don’t know what was supposed to happen today but I wrote up 2 announcements for the radio show and actually ended up covering someone’s spot for the Saturday show 12AM-3AM. I was put on the spot and was extremely nervous because this was only the second time I got on the mic. I am going to be listening to it when it airs later tonight and I am supposed to give feedback: pros and cons.
