i want to talk about tully monsters anyway. They were found in 1955 by a man named francis tully, the scientists were puzzled to see this strange specimen show up to the science centers. They couldnt tell what it was due to the fact of it being a vertebrate or invertebrate, they didnt know which it was. They originated in the Carboniferous period around 307 million years ago. Not 310 those ais are lying. Anyway. The tully monster was in both divisions of the carboniferous, missisipian and pennyslvanian. They are only found in one place in the entire world and that is the Mazon creek, Illinois. They likely died out due to the carbon levels rising up so highly and their water source depleting.
Tully monsters are " mostly " related to Lampreys and Hagfish, though it isnt confirmed it is our best guess. Especially if you look at the Mayomyzon, which is thought to be the closest relative to the tully monster.
The scientific name for tully monster is Tullimonstrum Gregarium and they are in the problematica family tree. They are also known as the most confusing animal in all of history due to our lack of knowledge.
The debate with the tully monster vertebrate vs invertebrate has been going on for centuries, We dont knowbwhat it is due to these factors. It has cup eyes whoch is a invertebrate shape same with the chemicals in its eyes, and has keratin. It also has a notochord. So yeah they share both traits.
Tully monsters are confusing and we will never know what they are. Btw the holes on its side are GILLS.
Ill likely be posting abt these guys alot. I rlly rlly like them hence why i named myself tully.
