I should be tried for my crimes. ❜ He had always been great at stirring conversations away from uncomfortable or awkward situations, this one in particularly seemed to have him on edges briefly but it was easy to slip back into his chatty, flirty self, his eyes rolling skywards as he leanedinto the palm of his hands. ❛ You’re forgetting you’re my customer. HE FELT A CHILL run down his spine with just the thought of burying Ethan in a cold, lonely grave, to be left alone in the world without the support of his twin to lean on. He needed a breath or two, another, longer sip of the other’s discarded drink before he could shake the awful thought from his head. The other was certainly doing far better than he would have in his place; after all, nothing seemed to be broken or burning yet. ❛ You can tip, I’m still buying. You’ve bought my drink anyway. ❜ He mused, a smile curling his lips upwards as he waved the little umbrella from the cocktail at him. He wanted to switch the topic to something far more pleasant, for his sake, bu for the other’s as well; he was certain he got enough pitiful looks in his life from friends and family after that tragedy. A stranger in a bar who has nothing to do with his life has nothing to do with his dead brother after all. ❛ Awful, dreadful. The magic must all happen behind the drums. Or maybe you just haven’t turned your charm on yet. ❜

the more he drank the angrier at himself he seemed to get. years wasted trying to study to the point of having a shot at saving his brother only to be dropped midway. useless, that waste of time. all it had done, in the end, was to get his hopes up, to maintain an illusion that told him he COULD do something when william clearly didn’t have enough time to begin with. he should have done something else. ❝ dick, ❝ he muttered half-heartedly, the glass raised in a silent CHEERS before he took a good sip from it. a change of topic seemed fair enough, and so he merely gave an amused scoff at the other’s words, head tilted to the side. ❝ you’re still chatting with me, think i’m doing fine enough. ❝

Without question, he pulled another tall glass from under the bar and quickly mixed him his desired cocktail, pushing it towards him and the Long Island iced tea back to his side. ❛ ‘S on me, yeah? And the next three you order. ❜ Taking a sip from his discarded drink, he placed it before himself a moment later, hand twitching to reach for his phone and call Ethan, just in case.

he missed him. of course he did, but he had been missing him since the accident in any case, and it felt a little like the mourning had dragged on for too long to leave him hit all at once by the loss. he had cried his share of tears, rebelled and yelled, attended the funeral silently and been told others’ condolences far too many times. he was grateful not to hear it again from the bartender. he was tempted to feel like a failure, but nothing in the world could have gotten him anywhere to save william and his parents would have made that decision no matter what he did. ❝ cut it out, dude. i’m paying, i’m tipping, ❝ he responded, a hand waved somewhat dismissively; if anything, payment had been valuable to him in the past. a small sip was taken from the new drink, earning a soft hum from the drummer, who soon returned to his previous position, head on his palm. ❝ it’s been about a month, i’m just shaking off concerned friends and stuff. besides, been a while since any groupie flung themselves at me, might as well see how much charm i’ve got without the drums to back me up, huh? ❝

he was NOT opening up about anything. it wasn’t a secret he kept, just something he did not think necessary to point out most of the time. he came to drink, because he thought it would do him good and smiling felt easier, it would help him relax a little and anyone who knew would be a little less worried if they saw him at a club or moderately drunk, seeming more at ease and a little more content. ❝ gotta ask him about that one. mh, and i’m not even all dolled up. d’you usually get more tips like this ? ❝ his head was tilted, then, the words almost conjuring a grin but it dropped for good once the conversation continued. ❝ i won’t, ❝ he responded rather easily, giving a light shrug, the drink pushed to the side a little. ❝ funeral was on sunday. ❝ a pause, then. ❝ --shit, i’m not doing the ‘drink to forget’ stuff right, huh? get me a zombie for once, yeah? ❝

Either as bland as a starving artist doing questionable shit to get recognised. ❜ An exaggeration on his part, as convicts could rarely find work in the bartending profession but stories still counted. His own was bland, really. Not all that sad or desperate nor entertaining but he never thought tragedy to be all the important to make something interesting. Though the other had made himself all that less dull when he spoke anew, having James grin widely and let his hands bang against the bar with a thud. ❛ That’s what I’m talking about! Thought, pray tell drummer boy, in what universe does the dude sitting in the back banging sticks against shit get laid more often than the singer? So you’re into the saving life shit, huh? Which is more exciting, though? The banging or sitting in an office giving pills to old people? ❜

❝ looks like your job’s got a reputation, too. ❝ his CERTAINLY did, mostly evident by the first question the other had post regarding it anyway. he was young enough to get away with it, the whole rebellious, wild life of a musician was a lot less exciting than people made it out to be. while playing in the band was amazing and he was on the verge of deciding to focus on music rather than finishing his courses, it had more to do with the bandmates and the way gigs made him feel generally more ALIVE rather than banging fans. ❝ the kind where the singer’s wedding’s coming up, ❝ david hummed in response, pushing about one of the straws in his glass. the words that followed very nearly missed a nerve that would have had him easily snapping back, but he still disapproved of them. maybe he was overall too exhausted to respond as snappily as he might have under different circumstances. still, he looked at him when he spoke, holding eye contact unwaveringly. ❝ third option; becoming a surgeon to save my brother. ❝

WHAT A CLEAN-CUT life. His head cocked to the side a little, his smile still very much present, friendly and oh so very polite that he imagined would seem off for anybody that knew him, personally. He had gotten the wrong impression of the man in his few assessments and loose conversations from the past but suddenly he had grown interested in what kind of a person he truly was. He would get bored after a few times spent with him, he was sure, if he was as perfect as he seemed to be on the surface but for now, he accepted his dull life as a challenge. ❛ Neither am I~ ❜ He hummed, not really thinking it a lie when he thought himself as more of a sophisticated thief, but he didn’t need to mention that. ❛ Ooh, drummer boy! Tell me you’re in a band. Slept with any groupies yet? C’mon, don’t keep all those juicy details to yourself. Who needs school when you’re a drummer, man. You could be banging all day long. ❜

the smile was a little too omnipresent for him, nothing he offered and nothing he put much value onto. he offered a small one of his own, more of a courtesy than a display of amusement. the days were still a little GREY, and would probably continue to be just that. the funeral had only been a few days ago, too. life was relatively simple to david in any case, his goals SHAKEN at the time, however, the clear path before him messier now, opening more options to choose from once he would move on from the grief. ❝ isn’t that a bartender thing, though ? being all neat and stuff. ❝ a soft scoff at that, and he took another sip, a light grin soon spreading. ❝ yeah, more than our SINGER for sure. sex is great and all but the sound saving people’s lives kinda has its appeal, too. ❝

IT WAS THE MIDDLE of the week and the night was slow. It tended to be when people were still expected to go to work or school in the morning and couldn’t afford a hangover to slow them down the next day. The few stools being warmed by regular patrons already nursing their drinks and the tables littered with stragglers meant that the atmosphere at least wasn’t dead, but it still made the bartender bored and easy to focus on the young, somewhat regular customer opposite of him. Impressed slightly by impressively clean track record, he let out a low whistle, leaning in a little further as his smirk turned from friendly and curious to mischevious. ❛ You sure don’t look like the good boy you are. ❜ He teased, his elbow propped on the dark wood bar, head resting in the palm of his hand. ❛ Medicine, huh? You sure you got the patience to study for ten more years? You’re still young, you still have time to gather some skeletons and decorate your closet. ❜

things were stressful. at least the funeral was over with, he had the liberty to ditch some classes and courses and only the band practise was still keeping him up. sleep was DIVINE as of late, he rested much more than he was used to but still felt worn throughout the day. the next day, he had another chance to meet with the band and fill the others in, specifically leo, but realistically, he would call a rain check again after all. a lazy smirk formed on his features. ❝ just not a thug, honestly, ❝ he hummed in response. ❝ thought i did, not really SURE anymore. might stick to the drums for a while instead. gotta pass on any SKELETONS, though. i’m too damn tired to even stay awake for lectures half the time. ❝

the smirk went right past him, his intentions far too irrelevant for him to think them over anyway. there was nothing on him, anyway. for all the piercings and the position in a band, he was a surprisingly well-behaved individual, the typical idea of korean parents putting most of their focus on an outstanding education and the perfect base for adulthood to work with. he took a sip of the drink, rested an elbow on the counter and propped his head on his palm. ❝ dude, i’m a model student, studying medicine, clean record--- i got nothing for you, man. ❝
