---NEW HAVEN unfolded in front of eleanor like the first page of a book. drenched in cold silver light, the city seemed unreal and dangerous like a knife, but also clean and promising. many cities, she had learned in the centuries of the existence, changed their faces throughout the day. exhaling and watching how the cloud of her breath danced away, she brushed a strand of her hair away and gripped her magazine  ( the newest issue of a medical publication; her interest had never waned )  a little tighter when a breeze picked up. whatever would happen today, she would not let her morning be ruined by her cherished possession’s destruction.
