“I love cool stationary as well,” Alex smiled, putting the third present down on the coffee table next to the jewellery box. “Especially notebooks, so this stuff is pretty much perfect. And of course you got some sloth stuff,” Alex laughed. “I can’t wait to find out how they react to that when you use it at work.”

As she took the little box out of the bag and opened it, Alex gasped. “Holy crap, Izzy, you got me a Pandora bracelet? This is so gorgeous!” She carefully lifted the silver bracelet out of the box and fastened it around her right wrist, smiling. “Thank you so much, for everything, I love my wonderful presents!”

“Ah, ah, ah~” Izzy raised her finger, wiggling it from side to side. “No Pandora bracelet is complete without~...” Izzy paused, standing up from the sofa now and pulling out a tiny square box from her pocket, dropping to one knee.

She presented up the little box, opening the thing to reveal a little charm. “Alex... will you do me the honour of becoming the sloth bearer?” she asked with a cheesy grin.

“This is so perfect, I wanna start doing a thing where I wear mismatching converse, so, like, one red one and one green one, and now I finally have enough pairs and different colours to make it work,” Alex said with a smile, running her hand over the material of the shoes, before carefully wrapping them up in the white tissue paper again, closing the box, and putting them on the floor beside the coffee table.

It was more difficult for her to open the third package as carefully as she had opened the first two, given that it was more lumpy, but Alex still took her time over doing so. She smiled at the present as she realised what is was, and nodded. “Honey, I love all musicals, but ‘Wicked’ is one of my favourites. This is so going on my desk at work.”

Izzy hummed happily for her friend, proud to have picked out a favourite of Alex’s musicals. “Yeah, I figured with the journalism thing that it’d be useful for you. I bought them online off someone who does custom designs-- I got myself some sloth designed stationary too when I bought those” she grinned sheepishly.

Izz then grabbed the fourth and final gift that had been sat on the sofa- a Pandora gift bag. Inside it was a black velvet box, opening up would reveal a silver bracelete. “I didn’t know if you already had a Pandora charm bracelet going, so I bought that just incase-- making future gifts that little bit easier, heh”

Alex took the bigger box and took just as much time to open it as she had the last one - in fact, it took her a little longer as the box was far more carefully wrapped, not that Alex really minded how the box was wrapped. She just wanted to take her time over unwrapping some of the first real presents she had ever received.

She grinned happily when she saw the shoes. “Oh my God, Izzy, I’ve been wanting red ones for months now!” she cried excitedly. Alex quickly checked the size on them. “Yep, they’re absolutely the right size.”

“Oh thank goodness” Izzy sighed out, smiling away again, now able to ditch the worried expression that was slowly forming. “See I thought of what colours I had seen you wearing and thought.... hrrrrm, there’s a serious lack of red on those feets!”

Izzy then turned to pick up the third gift for Alex, offering it out with the same enthusiasm she’d had throughout the whole gift giving. “It’s my code always get a more useful thing too, not that shoes aren’t useful-- I see them more as vanity though!”

This third gift seemed lumpy in shape, an obvious sign of a bunch of small things inside all jumbled together. Again this one was adopting Izzy’s style of atrocious gift wrapping skills. When Alex opened them- she’d find a stationary set in a design theme of the musical ‘Wicked’.

“You like that musical, don’t you?” she asked hopefully, eyes wide in anticipation.

It took almost another thirty seconds before Alex had finally finished carefully unwrapping the first present. But, when she could finally see it, she gasped slightly, a soft smile on her face. “Oh my God, Izzy, this is so beautiful…” she breathed, slightly in awe of the gorgeous jewellery box. Alex just watched the dancer spin around.

She very carefully put the box down on the coffee table, before giving her friend a hug. “Sweetie, thank you so much, I love it!”

Izzy grinned even wider than before if it were possible, truly happy to see her friend happy. “I’m glad you like it, that’s the only one I couldn’t get a return gift receipt on sooo... ya’ better like it, bitch!” she snorted, teasing Alex a little before offering a larger box to her now. This one seemed neatly wrapped up, no way Izzy had wrapped this one...

Upon unwrapping the paper, Alex would find the signature converse All Star logo on the box, already giving away what was inside the box. Wrapped up inside were some size six red converse shoes, going up over the ankles. “Please tell me those are the right size...” Izzy whined, pouting her lip and watching on.

“Oh! Oh, oh, oh!” Izzy flapped her arms up and down in excitement, offering out a small box-shaped gift, wrapped up in the worst way possible. It was clear Izzy’s still was not in gift wrapping. “Open this one first!” she nodded, eyes wide, biting her lip in sheer glee. She just loved giving gifts.

Four more gifts sat in the pile on the sofa, the TV still set up displaying a menu of sorts…

“I can see that you laboured over the wrapping of it,” Alex laughed, though her teasing was nothing but kind and jovial. She took the box and gently peeled off the sticky tape, not wanting to rip the paper. It was so rare that she got presents - her parents had always given their children books, and not the kind of books that Alex liked. And they were rarely wrapped. She wanted to savour unwrapping them, and so she carefully pulled away the wrapping paper.

Izzy smiled proudly at the mention of her wrapping skills. She tried. One mental shiny gold star for her. As Alex opened the first gift, she’d find an old antique jewellery box. Upon opening it up, the pre-wound up music would start to play as a little ballet girl started twirling on the spot.

“I saw it sat in the window of a secondhand shop and couldn’t resist getting it you. The little ballet girl looks just like you” she nodded at the tiny dancing figurine. A small bun of brown hair sat on top of the figure’s head, a tiny dress similar to one of Alex’s that Izzy had once seen her in after a dance class one day.

Izzy stood there grinning like an idiot. A proud idiot at that. “Birthday Happy~” she chimed, waving both her hands wildly as she walked towards Alex to try and pull her into a hug.

Stepping away afterwards, she gestured towards the pile of stuff sat on the sofa with a big grin on her face. “Come on, I wanna see you open your stuff! I got a whole mix of stuff because I wasn’t sure what you’d like and they all have gift receipts if you wanna take any of it back and exchange it… well except one anyways!”

Laughing at her friend’s clear pride and excitement, Alex hugged Izzy tightly, grinning. She’d never really had anyone do anything like this for her birthday before - though Harry had done some little things for her in the past. Alex grimaced internally; Harry was a sore subject right now.

“I seriously can’t believe you did all of this,” Alex smiled as she followed Izzy over to the couch. “This is amazing, sweetie, thank you. Okay, which one should I open first?”

Izzy had spent all morning preparing up Alex’s flat whilst she was out. Having been tipped off from other friends when she’d be out and planning out her little surprise for her- Izzy seemed more than satisfied with her work. Sighing in relief, she looked around the place to analyse her work. A whole table was set up with a collection of both their favourite snacks and drinks. A pile of presents sat on the sofa in front of the TV and the TV itself was turned on ready with something in particular displaying on the screen. It seemed Izzy had spared no expense to make this a surprise Alex wouldn’t forget. Now all that was waiting was the birthday girl herself to return home…

Alex wasn’t expecting anyone to do anything for her birthday. After all, she wasn’t used to anyone celebrating it - birthdays had never been a thing in her family, though her sister had always done something with her friends under her parents noses. She got a few smiles and greetings at work, and a card from Peter (she was impressed that he had remembered), but wasn’t expecting anything else. So, when she got back to her apartment and let herself in, she yelped in surprise. “Oh my God, Izzy? What are you doing here?” she asked, though she could guess, and was already grinning.
