Get your image on a transparent layer! If you’re going to have multiple characters, make sure they end up on one layer, even if you start them on their own layers!

Select the image! I suggest using the “color select” and then going to “Select” > “Invert”

Go to “Select” again, and then “Grow.” You can grow it as much as you want, for the example we’ll use four.

Add a new layer and place it under the original picture layer without getting rid of the selection.

Use the color you want directly behind them and fill it in.

For the next one, double the original growth. Rinse and repeat the rest as long as you want!

NOTE: For the growth, try to go up one interval (if you start w/ 4 for 4, 8, 12, etc).

When you’re done, add anything else you want and...
