Principal: What are you two doing over there?
hamlet is so funny all the time. horatio being like ghosts arenโt real. i know this. i know ghosts arenโt real. i am a real mature student who goes to school and studies real mature things so i know ghosts arenโt real. i know this because i go to school. gets to denmark and the guards are like oh you go to school??? thank God we need someone who learned how to talk to ghosts
Hamlet adaptation where Hamlet is a vlogger and all his soliloquies are breakdowns he uploads to YouTube
โฆ I am unironically here for this
this is the funniest thing Iโve ever seen in my life
This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, heโs stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, theyโre still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but theyโre still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewerโs lived experience. Theyโre still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?
Like this. And itโs beautiful. Itโs beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because heโs presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.
A post about this went round recently, and Iโm delighted to announce sheโs since come out as trans and goes by Jasmine ๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ
Actor and Writer
Thereโs a whole series of the Hamlet videos on her YouTube, as well as a bunch of other films sheโs made
Hot damn. Jasmine might be edging out Redneck Marc Anthony as my favorite โgrounded modern performance of Shakespeare using the Vlog Formatโ
that's a happy ending, kindness in action can do some good here and there.

You can replace [ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY] with [SCROLLING] but watch out. This sucks bad ๐
Some things about this post since getting quite a few notes:
1. If you see this post, highly recommend taking it as an opportunity to set a timer for 15 minutes and switch over to ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY. if after those 15 minutes, you want to go back to scrolling, that's okay!
2. Huge shout out to this popping up in my notifs often, bc I do go back to activity.
3. I think there are times where scrolling is fine. Right now, for example, I'm being connected to a machine for two hours to donate plasma and platelets. Yes this is a brag but it is also a time where scrolling is one of the few things I can do. (Though I will probably also read or watch something on phone lol)
hmmm, this seems to be some kind of curse breaking spellโฆ be free ye reader

The whole "Primus asking Wick to kill someone was supposed to be a way of giving Sam agency in Wick's death" thing really does highlight what a fascinating medium actual play is. Like, Sam and Brennan clearly collaborate very well. And have done great work together both in C4 and Calamity (and possibly other places I haven't watched yet). But it highlights such a stark difference in their storytelling instincts for Brennan to be like "ah yes, a chance for this heroic, good person character to get a heroic death" and Sam to go "nope, time for my character who's trying to figure out what being a good person means without the structure of his religion to make a harsh choice." And the fact that they don't have to come to a compromise, that Brennan offers Sam a choice to respond to, and then Sam makes a choice Brennan will have to respond to is so cool! It's definitely something that can cause problems; if a DM and player really aren't on the same page about how to tell a story, the story risks falling apart. But most versions of collaboration on art would require the two of them to find a compromise on their instinct before presenting it to an audience. And actual play instead allows us to see how storytellers respond to each other's instincts. I've said it before, I'll say it again: a major part of the appeal of actual play is that we aren't just watching a story, but watching the process of telling a story. And this was such a fun example of that

I've had this sitting around as a sketch for awhile, finally had time to finish it! Hoping to do more mythology illustration this year.

the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be a part of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

I love AO3 and all its wonderful, generous, gorgeous, hilarious writers.
Do they not have skulls!? Why is it mushy there!?!? @bunjywunjy
well of course beluga has a skull!! that's just not where it is.
see, you wouldn't necessarily pick up on this, but beluga skulls (and most cetacean skulls in general) are pretty much
flat...
so what's going on up there? well, most of the beluga's head is taken up by soft tissue and a large organ called the melon, which is basically a big ol waterballoon of semiliquid fat!
(boob. it's a head boob.)
this organ is found in every toothed whale and dolphin species on the planet and it's INCREDIBLY important, because the melon is what lets them echolocate!
the actual sound-producing organ is inside their nasal passage of all places, which sits up behind there, but the melon is what's actually used to fine-tune the soundwaves into the laser-accurate pinpoints that dolphins and toothed whales are so famous for.
tldr: without their head boob, belugas and their relatives would be literally flying blind!
does slapping the melon like that hurt it ? like does it affect how it works or anything
@weirdgirlwambsgans @vampire-juicebox you guys are in luck bc it does not! Belugas will squish their melons voluntarily against things like rocks and glass. Think of it like when you squish your butt (but at the same time not, bc they have no nerve endings beyond the skin) they even voluntarily let humans play with it!
This is a strong creature, if that hurt or bothered it, you would know
