I love TS2, as you guys know, if you just take a quick look into my blog, not news, anymore. I know some people love the look of TS2 because it's nostalgic, how it reminds them of the childhood they had, which is beautifully perfect when TS2 is a big part of it. trust me, mine too.
but, as a very modern and simple lover, I can't help but think TS2 UI is a bit old (who am I kidding? it is). and I want my game to reflect that up-to-date looks and feels. so, I'm giving you mod recos if you are a modern and simplistic UI lover like moi! enjoy!!

and the little sister to Clean UI, Starship UI by simstate for all of you nyctophile bitches out there. it's essentially if Clean UI has dark mode toggle. perfect for that late night gaming in the dark, but you don't want your eyes to get burned like that fish guy in that one spongebob tanning episode. trust me girl, sometimes, I switch to this UI after hours of playing TS2 with Clean UI, just to let my eyes rest a bit.

you think I forgot about you, nyctophilic bitches? nah-uh, not ever. you're using Starship UI and your hood menu and loading screens are still as bright as the star of Sirius? no, hunny, I'm not going to let you. THIS is the love I'm going to give you. it has neon elements and using the style of the famous @microscotch. iconic? an understatement. the only downside of this, it's for Legacy Collection. don't worry, you UC users can still use it, but the title of the game on the hood menu will not match the title of your game, that's all. if you can get pass that, then GO GET EM.

6. Sims 4 Style Headline Elements by @noodlebelli
this is the most fabulous default replacement for The Sims 2! well, it is since I think noodlebelli is the only one who made it <\3 but nonetheless, I much appreciate it! this mod is essentially self explanatory. it replaces TS2 headline like increase/decrease relationship point, enthusiasm, university, and badges. it truly makes the game look even more modern!

again, self explanatory, as it replaces the original thought bubbles with a more HD ones. making the game less pixelated and old, and remastering it further.

8. Talk to Me - A Conversation Icon Replacement Mod by @keoni-chan
when I found this, I was jumping up and down! because it goes well with Better Bubbles by eddysims. It's HD, perfectly replaced the designated topic of the conversation or activities, so the small detail of the matching talking gestures and thought bubble would not be compromised, as it is matched perfectly!

by morning, the trains are already crowded. coffee shops fill with freelancers, students, journalists, designers, and people who swear they're only staying for one drink.
by afternoon, the boutiques and galleries are buzzing, office towers are filling up, and another ambitious Sim is convincing themselves that this is finally going to be their year.
by night, Westend changes. neon spills across the pavement. music leaks out of bars. the waterfront comes alive. someone is always celebrating, someone is always falling in love, and someone is probably making a terrible decision they'll have to explain tomorrow.
this is the city's biggest heartbeat.
it's where old money meets new money. where the Laurents' name has been carved into the city for generations, while the Castillos are determined to prove that a family doesn't need a century of history to become powerful. (a tease of some of the main cast of Westend's Youngsters!)
but Westend isn't really theirs.
it's the photographer wandering home after midnight. the artist who hasn't slept because inspiration finally arrived. the musician playing to twenty people and calling it a gig. the designer turning an apartment into a studio. the journalist chasing a story nobody else wants to touch. the recent graduate staring at their first real paycheck and wondering what they're supposed to do now. the girl who came to the city looking for a fresh start and isn't entirely sure she's found it.
everyone comes looking for something.
money. recognition. love. freedom. a career. a second chance.
and sometimes, without meaning to, they find each other.
I've always hated how the camera jumps up and down when playing tall and slim buildings. Turns out, it's really easy to fix! Itāll take you less than a minute. All the details under the cut.
All it takes is opening the LiveCamera.txt file in your Documents>Cameras folder with a text editor and changing these two parameters near the bottom to a higher value. Doesnāt matter if you're using a custom camera mod or not. Those parameters should be there. I have set mine like this (remember to save a backup just in case you don't like these changes).
It might seem a bit extreme, but I still think itās fine.
-The top parameter, floorheightsamplerange, handles how much the floors āextend outā, so the camera object can stand on it mid-air. The higher it is, the further the floor will extend. This will make it so your camera will be able to stick to the floor youāre on, even if you pan away from the building. No more annoying jumps up and down!
-The parameter below that, floorheightsampleinnerrange, handles the transition between sticking to the current floor and dropping to the ground level once it goes past the edge. The higher it is, the smoothest the fall will be.
Iāll note though that the behaviour of these parameters might not be 100% accurate with how the game actually works, but from what I tested I think itās pretty close as an explanation. If someone knows better how this Live Camera works, please let me know and Iāll try my best to correct any inaccuracies.
Save the .txt file and check how it works in game. It might feel weird at first, but personally I find it so much smoother and easier to handle. If youāre not happy with these values, close the game and edit those parameters until you find your sweet spot. Unfortunately, you will have to close and open the game every time you change it to check how it works.
Thereās so many cool Custom Camera mods out there that I thought itās probably better to just show how to edit those 2 parameters than editing and reuploading all of them.
So yeah, thatās it. Now you can play those tall lots without getting a headache. Go ahead and send your college simmies to that hideous Sim State Tower with a hot tub on top of it. Now youāll be able to see whatās going on up there.
repeat after me, The Sims 2 deserves an 'IT' girl moment too!
you know, as someone who LOVES the type of content of cozy, slice of life, 'it' girl lifestyle gameplay those TS4 aesthetic girlies are on? yeah, I want THAT. but my deep criticism towards TS4 and EA themselves is making me held back from actually wanting to play TS4 with all those 'it' girl lifestyle mods. (truthfully the biggest factor is that my laptop couldn't handle that much custom content and playing TS4 without them felt so blandš)
so, since I love TS2 to my very own core and I couldn't seem to let go of that lovely game to have that 'it' girl moment for my sim, I decided to take matters into my own hands, and scour the internet (or tumblr really...) to find mods that give me that 'it' girl gameplay vibe. of course, I don't want only my sim to experience that. I want YOURS too!

you probably asking, why The Sims 2 specifically? well, The Sims 2 is a game known to have a rich and deep lore for the characters in the game. though I'm not playing the actual families of the original lore of the game, but it so many ways to tell the stories. household bio, sim bio, personality points, and of course, the memory system that you can interpret however you want to fit into your storyline.
why not The Sims 3 or 4? for The Sims 3, it also has good lore, even better personality with personality traits, and also, open world. but the style of the sim and the open world system aren't really my favorite. the open world is great, but for my laptop, it's really heavy:((. and creating my own world for it is really hard to do. for The Sims 4, well, do I really need to explain? the style of the sim is good especially with custom content, but the lack of personality and small details, the animations, the constant update that will most likely hold back tons of progress I have if I use custom content, and the disability to create your own world/neighborhood are really pushing me back from playing The Sims 4. so, The Sims 2 is the way to go, as I interpret it as the combination of The Sims 3 and 4. which is kind of ironic that The Sims 2 is the prequel of the two...
for my gameplay, I chose to play in downtown, and I chose @sterina-sims 's "Westend" which you can find here, as the starting base, and not changing the name. I've changed so many aspects and redecorated it to actually fits my liking, and to resembles NYC vibe, as my storyline is about a girl from nowhere trying to make her own statement in a city that expect greatness pre-made into your life. although I'm planning to rewrite the story as I'm currently making and planning it my own using a pre-decorated neighborhood called "Portland" by zaxis on MTS, which you can find here, and calling it a different name. stay tuned on that!
I have so many screenshots that I'm so eager to show about my progress in building the world for my story! right now, the title of my storyline is "Westend's Youngsters". and this blog is also a place where I'm going to share the mods that I like and put in my game.

The latest versions of my turn on/off replacements are posted here. Iāll still keep this version up but it wonāt be updated anymore.
There are neat replacements already existing for these but they all get rid of the supernatural ones, which are valid in my game. I didnāt want the ones tied to university or vacation subhoods either as those are only useful in main hoods with them. So hereās my take:
Cologne -> Life Skills (has learned at least two of the life skills)
Stink -> Poor
Underwear -> Rich
Swimwear -> Great Dancer (dance skill is 6 or higher)
Formalwear -> Pet Lover (has at least one pet friend)
Full Face Makeup -> Talented (has at least one silver or gold talent badge)
Hats -> Good Reputation
Jewelry -> Bad Reputation
Custom Hair -> Alien (either skintone, eyes, or both)
I also went and replaced most of the turn on/off icons with some TS4 ones. The beard and hair ones still use their TS2 icons as I couldnāt find any equivalent for them, but they go pretty nicely with these!
Lazy Duchessā and Midgeās mods were used as a base, so all fixes included with those apply to mine too. One personal quirk though: with this mod sims using the cologne wonāt get flowers flying around them.
Now available with alternative icons for Life Skills and Good/Bad Reputation. Thereās also a version which in addition replaces the Grey Hair TO with Mersim one. All versions are included with the download but only use one at a time!

Update (11.11.2023):Ā With this update, life skills TO requires at least two learned life skills to trigger (instead of one).

Update (14.12.2021): Fixed a mistake on my part that caused plantsims to get an additional trait for lycanthropy and servos to get an additional trait for witchiness.
Update (28.8.2021): Reverted a feature originally added by Lazy Duchess that stopped plantsims from getting hair color attraction traits. Plantsims now get them like any other sims, those with a leafy hair will have the trait for the hair color they would have when cured (as was the original maxis behavior).
Update (24.8.2021): Added a Spanish translation.
Update (16.8.2021): Fixed a bug causing errors at the skill point gain for sims that had learned a life skill.

Finally, the highly requested and diligently procrastinated download is here. Now your Sims can spend their days happily dillydallying around Westwend.
I love urban lots, especially where more activities/sims can intermingle, so I put together this apartment lot that features shopping!
Thereās a clothing store, a convenience store with groceries, and a gaming/electronics shop (which is a front for a backroom dance club).
It has four functional apartments, 3 of which take up each of the 3 buildingsā 2nd floor space. Thereās nothing on the 3rd floor of each building, because itās already laggy as is so I removed the apartments I originally put in there. The 4th apartment is on the top floor of the center building, so itās kinda like the fancy penthouse except not really because itās just as grungy as all the others lol.
All four apartments are already furnished, but minimally & cheaply (though due to size, I think, they average to like $1,000+ rent lol).
NPC Note: Because this is an apartment lot with shopping, it relies on MogHughsonās Apartment & Shopping on the Same Lot mod to work.
You can still play it as a normal apartment right away with no changes even if you donāt have/want the mod, there just wonāt be any NPCs that spawn for the community lot objects.
Also even with the mod, the DJ NPC will never spawn. I guess that object didnāt get included in the mod, so youāll just have to make your own sims/townies be the DJ :P
I tried not to go crazy with NPC-spawning objects to reduce lag issues, but the following NPCs will spawn on the lot with MogHughsonās mod installed:

Like I said there is lag, but I found it manageable when I playtested - And Iām very picky about playing lots that cause lag. YMMV though, especially if you use/add CC while playing it.
The package file (which contains ONLY the CC-free lot) is 45MB!! Thatās literally double The Deadite Denās size, which is a lot I posted with CC. So thereās an idea of what youāre working with.
