The first time Kitty Ghost slept on top of Soap was a little out of spite. Soap had thrown his cat bed in the washer because it has too much catnip that Kitty Ghost slept a little too peacefully (meaning Soap thought the dude died more times than he’s comfortable with).
The sofa was occupied with Soap laying down while writing his latest mission report. So, naturally, Kitty Ghost hopped on top of his stomach, making sure to put its whole weight that Soap’s breath rushed out of him at once with a choked ‘Oomph’, kneaded his (clawed) paws on his shirt, and settled down for a nap.
Not a while later Soap thought he misheard the soft purring that the cat had emitted in its sleep. It’s been a couple weeks since Soap picked it up on the streets, but with the discovery that Kitty Ghost could turn human, he had kept physical touches minimum with the cat, not wanting to overstep any boundaries that he doesn’t know if it existed.
Gently, not to rustle Kitty Ghost from its sleep, Soap brought a hand to the cat’s deep black fur, noting in the back of his mind that it’s softer than when he first found it on the side of the road. Soap checked any signs of discomfort from the cat, and when he didn’t find any, he slowly scratched it with blunt fingertips from its nape down its back.
A smile was brought to his lips when Kitty Ghost let out deeper purrs as Soap’s soft nails scratched circular patterns on the feline’s short fur. With careful maneuver Soap managed to balance his other digital pad on his knee to resume his reading with one hand, while his other continued petting his cat.
Time went slowly trickling by, with the mission report long abandoned on the floor by the sofa and Soap still idly moving his hand on Kitty Ghost, alternating between soft scratching and petting. Kitty Ghost, Soap discovered, runs fairly warm, and even though it’s pudgier than other cats that he’s seen out there, the combined weight and warmth doesn’t bother Soap too much. With the purring it’s almost… therapeutic, somehow.
When Soap starts drifting to sleep he noticed the slight twitches from the cat. ‘Huh,’ Soap wonders with half a conscious thought, ‘Usually when it does that it’s-‘
His train of thought was cut short by a sudden added weight on top of him from a much larger form than the small kitty that the sofa actually creaked under the sudden weight of almost 200 pounds of pure muscle added to its old frame.
“Holy creepin’ Jesus-“ Soap wheezed out when he felt a clothed face snuggle up against the crook of his neck. The sudden appearance of the masked man on top of him instinctually made Soap wanted to push him off immediately, but he stops in his tracks when he noticed a couple little details.
One, Ghost is still asleep.
Two, Ghost is still purring.
The realization hit Soap so unexpectedly that he stilled, feeling the body on top of him rise and fall with each breath, the warmth that didn’t seem to change, and the rumble from deep within Ghost’s chest that’s undoubtedly a purr.
Soap mentally altered the list in his head that is the similarity between the human and cat form of Ghost.
1. They both won’t take off their weirdly intimidating skull masks.
2. They’re both a piece of shit.
