Ellegaard the diva
So, itβs now time to shed light on one of the more iconic members of the old order. Ellegaard is among, if not the smartest member of the old order.
Where Gabriel has his strength, Soren has his master building, Ivor has his alchemy, and Magnus has his⦠Magnus, Ellegaard stands out as the brightest member of the group. Founding a city based entirely around further progressing technology and finding new ways to use Redstone efficiently.
Ellegaard seems to be the most well off out of any of the order members, not including Gabriel. Seemingly leaving behind the βOrder Of The Stoneβ title, and moving more towards master inventor/mind of minds. Thatβs not to say that people still donβt go βlook itβs Ellegaard from The Order Of The Stoneβ that still very much happens, she has just downplayed it so much, that it doesnβt really affect her anymore.
Speaking on Ellegaardβs roll and relationship with her friends, itβs less than pretty. Sheβs the brains, sheβs the one who has to deal with all the complications of the group adventures. Shes gone on to state, during several arguments with Magnus, that she feels like every problem fell on her shoulders. Sheβs the smart one, she has to have a solution to every problem. I think this is where her disinterest for people derives from. Having to carry all of the weight of decision making. Sheβs an incredibly talented engineer, with an amazing understanding and compassion for machines, with humans? Not so much.
As far as emotions go, Ellegaard is, stunted. Ever since the separation from her friends, she seems to be a lot more socially awkward despite having an audience who praises her for her intellect. Sheβs easy to just throw on a pleasant demeanor, and then passive aggressively tell you what youβre doing wrong. This is especially clear when meeting Jesse and Olivia for the first time. She treats Olivia with such disregard and Jesse as-well, depending on if you decide to help Olivia up or do the task. Even then she still just sees them as tools. This doesnβt necessarily mean that sheβs mean spirited, sheβs just very stubborn. Once Ellegaard forms an opinion on something, sheβs not very willing to sway her opinion on it. Case in point, Ivor.
Where Ellegaard has a hidden compassion towards Magnus, after the events of S1, Ellegaard has no real interest in reconnecting with Ivor, after the wither storm is unleashed. Ellegaard had a whole town, and a population of devoted followers. All of which, and also determinately her life, are put at risk and destroyed by the wither storm. So itβs no real secret sheβd be less than easy to convince of Ivors redemption.
While Iβve seen alot of βEllegaard is kind of snobbyβ, or βEllegaard is kinda rudeβ. I feel like that maybe true to some extent, however sheβs quick to work with us when she sees how bad the wither storm is. Sheβs able to show compassion for Magnus when heβs dying in Sorenβs arms. Sheβs obviously very happy to see Gabriel and insists that she stays behind to watch over Gabriel when he develops wither sickness. Ellegaard may be socially awkward but she means well. She may struggle to form bonds, but after the events of s1 into episode 2 Olivia has been under Ellegaardβs mentorship. Given how she reacted to Olivia fainting, Iβd imagine those twos relationship has increasingly grown from super fan and idol, to Mentor and Apprentice.
In the end, Ellegaard is just a woman whoβs had a lot of pressure put on her. Sheβs the one that people look too for explanations. Sheβs someone who people put upon a pedestal of genius. Someone who has to continuously try, and try, and try for people whoβs sheβs left behind along time ago. Shes someone who struggles to form bonds, or change her opinions, but even the most stubborn person can change their mind. Even the smartest person needs help.
Friends thank you for watching. I love writing these little essays about these characters that I love so much. Since Ivor was the other option expect him to be done next. Till then!
