Food distribution market workers are equivalent of ‘first responders,’ says councilman

Elected officials are weighing in on ways to ease hardships for New Yorkers caught in the crosshairs of the coronavirus outbreak.

“With the numbers of confirmed cases rising, tough decisions will have to be made about which New Yorkers should be allowed to conduct their normal day-to-day business,” wrote Councilman Salamanca yesterday, in a letter addressed to Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Lincoln and Jacobi Hospitals and two community-based health centers in the Bronx have been identified as coronavirus testing sites by the NYC Health and Human Services Corp. Appointments are required for all testing.

For the first time in the company’s 28-year existence, anyone within a 50-mile radius of its Hunts Point headquarters can go to their website and place an order.

Former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang is bringing some financial relief to the Bronx and beyond.

Yang announced that he will be giving $1 million to Bronx residents financially impacted by COVID-19 through his nonprofit organization, Humanity Forward.

Delivery apps are urging customers to select “contact-free delivery” when making purchases to avoid the spread of the virus. After selecting the no contact option, deliveries will be left at the door instead of exchanging hands.
