hopeless romantic

At first, you’re sad.

Then you’re tired.

Life keeps going

and dragging you

along with it.

Eventually,

you don’t feel as sad.

Or at least you pretend not to be.

You pour that sadness

into a vial and ignore it,

hoping it will be misplaced and forgotten.

Just like all the vials

filled with liquid that

you don’t want to see on paper.

Eventually,

you notice that things are darker:

your outlook

your relationships

your family

your passions.

And you realize

the vial tipped over

no longer able to be contained.

After shoving them to the back of the cabinet,

they are falling and breaking.

Every part of your world is stained.

It will take more than light scrubbing

or a Tide To-Go Pen.

Depression is more than feeling sad.

It is spilled Ink,

bleeding into the things you love,

making you feel as if everything is ruined,

and must be thrown out.
