Punching the air rn all I wanted was for them to go to college and live a regular life as retired heroes

This makes everything a million times worse.

I find it ironic they wanted to avoid making the audience feel like the series was a waste of time, or that the ending was a cop-out, yet that's exactly what they did.

Why are writers suddenly obsessed over writing an unexpected ending over a good one? Since when did it become the norm that all tropes like seeing them in college are bad and must therefore be avoided?

These kids living ordinary life in extraordinary circumstances is NOT the story you've been telling for years now? You're trying to tell me that normal, high school life was NOT a big part of Trollhunters and 3 Below, and acting normal was taking a toll on Jim, Toby, Claire, Aja, and Krel? Heck, even Steve and Eli? You're trying to say that Douxie living a normal life working in a restaurant and playing in a band despite being a powerful wizard and desperately trying to keep Arcadia safe at night is a LETDOWN?

Okay, okay, okay.

Let's get one thing absolutely clear.

You knew this series was ending. No more after this movie.

And you're concerned with the ending of it being ANTICLIMACTIC???

NEWSFLASH! THAT'S HOW WRITING WORKS!!!

YOUR CLIMAX IS MEANT TO HAVE HIGHER ENERGY THAN YOUR RESOLUTION! THE ENDING IS OFTEN ANTICLIMACTIC BECAUSE YOU'RE MOVING AWAY FROM THE FREAKING CLIMAX!!!! YOU ALREADY SET UP A CLIMAX IN YOUR MOVIE WITH THE END OF BELLROC AND THE FIRE TITAN! HECK, EVEN BEFORE THAT WHEN JIM GOT HIS NEW AMULET! THAT WAS YOUR HGIH ENERGY POINT! YOU DON'T NEED A CLIMACTIC ENDING AFTER THAT!!!

....*sigh*...

I'm not saying you can never end a story with high energy. They did it for the end of every single season of the whole series. It worked because there was always the promise of something more. But more than that, they wrote satisfying endings.

I know this is a movie, but many series with great endings don't have a climax of their story in the last episode. The best example I can think of that did this well was Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The entirety of the last episode was just showing what happened after. It was satisfying, but open-ended. Another great example is Parks and Recreation. They got to explore what happened with every single character and show how they've grown since episode 1, giving each of them a personalized farewell. Both are extremely different stories, but both took the time to end their series.

I have spend the past week walking around in a daze with my cheeks always wet from crying about the unexplained ending but now after reading this I feel like I can sleep well for the first time since ROTT aired.

I know I already posted this, but I have a theory.

What if at the very beginning of trollhunters rise of the titans it starts off with a flashback scene. A flashback scene to when Toby moved in across the street and Jim’s Birthday. We see somewhere in this scene Jim’s dad giving him his bike kit, then later on leave. And maybe we even see Toby and Jim become friends not too long after that scene. Jim of course didn’t see his dad leave, (or did but of course didn’t know he wasn’t coming back) but maybe if Toby did and Jim’s dad hasn’t returned in days, he comes over to Jim’s to cheer him up. Not mention his dad, but just make him feel happy. After that, the background music could maybe go up as the scene lifts to the sky, and shows the title of the movie, like some movies do. After the camera angle is lowered, the screen says something like, ‘11-12 years later’ and shows them how they look after wizards (and maybe even mentions that it’s a week or two after ‘wizards’ events).

Been so busy between moving prep and most of my artwork being for zines that I havent had chance to draw anything I can actually post, so my socials have been dead. Sorry ;-;

I loved Wizards just as much as I loved Trollhunters because the storyline, the characters and the setting are just beautiful.

But what I loved the most was that we actually got to see just how much Claire cares about Jim. Like, in Trollhunters we repeatedly see how much Jim cares about her, so much that sometimes it feels a little one-sided. But in Wizards we can see she's willing to do anything and risk everything in order to keep him safe.

I also think Wizards gives us a good perspective of why Claire wouldn't be as fitted for the protector role as Jim is: in Trollhunters we see that she is willing to risk the entire world to save Enrique because he is her baby brother, while Jim is willing to risk it all for one life because he thinks all lives are precious.

And in Wizards we see again that between the entire world and Jim, Claire would always choose Jim.

She has no regards in sacrificing herself for the sake of the world, but if she has to choose between the world and her loved ones (more likely Jim and Enrique), she will choose her love ones.

Now I'm not saying any of this is bad, on the contrary, it's very refreshing that they allow a female main character to step out of the little-perfect-princess-heroine mold that most of them are kinda forced into (coff coff Miraculous Movie coff coff).

So this is why I adore Claire and Jim. They complement each other in a way most fictional couples can't even dream of. Jim is the selfless brave hero, a little reckless, a little too careless with his own life, he would rip off his skin to coat a baby, while Claire is the rational hero, she would always save the world but her own life is just as important and she knows a world without the people she loves is not worth saving.

Together they literally make the perfect hero.
