CORINTHIAN'S STATEMENT MAKES him nervous, for a myriad of reasons, but mostly because of how he says it. it leaves lips in drawl, close to a purr, & the sound ignites both tiereny's fear instinct, as well as a set of tingling down his spine. having lived a relatively sheltered life, this is the one & only experience that the healer has had with another man, & while he finds it slightly exciting that he doesn't know what's to come, he's also filled with recognizable dread because of it. other's unexpected nature is something he's come to both love & hate, moderately so ―

AS THE HEALER'S VERSION of hate is something softer than most would attach to such a word. there's a pause while tiereny works on how to respond, & as usual, there's nothing to hide the way features show exactly what he's thinking. trepidation, hesitancy, but equal parts intrigue play over face, something that the healer knows he can't even attempt to hide. not from the corinthian, anyway ; he knows the other smells vulnerability like a sweet perfume, & tiereny's currently oozing it. ❛ you . . . don't have to do that, ❜ he says finally, always erring on the side of concern for others, not quite afraid enough for himself to make any kind of defensive gestures, even as other comes closer. ❛ i can handle myself. not that i don't appreciate it, but . . . the last thing i want is you getting hurt, 'rinth. ❜

BROWS PINCH TOGETHER & her first reaction is righteous indignation to being spat at as such. petra is well-versed to such frustrations with humans, though, & it only takes a few choice breaths for her to cool down enough to contemplate other's position. frankie's lashing out because something has bothered her, & petra is the kind of friend that will pry until the truth is out in the open, because she feels the honesty is better for the human conscience ― that, & it makes the job of trying to figure out what's going on leagues easier.

❛ NO, ❜ the witch says after a moment of silence, absorbing frankie's ire but not reproducing it ; it stops short in her frame, discarded with little thought as petra focuses on helping other instead. her pride & ego need not interfere here ― she just wants to help. maybe it would be easier here if she truly didn't care, but she does, & so the witch is left trying to find out just what has caused frankie's upset. she reaches out to take one of other's hands in hers, a non-negotiable as blue gaze meets & holds friend's. ❛ hey, c'mon. you can talk to me. what's going on, what's bothering you ? ❜

THERE'S A SLY, SELF-SATISFIED smile that comes to their lips as she flings herself at them. they catch her, because of course they do, wrapping arms around billie in turn as she presses a kiss to their mouth. riley's no stranger to public displays of affection, finds that they quite enjoy them in normal circumstances, & with her it feels like a brag to show her off on their arm. she's gorgeous, smart, witty & hilarious when she wants to be, & they're aware just how lucky they are to have pulled her into their gravity ; they're not sure that they would've met under ordinary circumstances. an ode to how their paths have crossed ― something that riley celebrates. ❛ hey, gorgeous, ❜ they purr into her ear, voice low even in the crowded room. they're at a party, but all riley can think of is getting billie alone in one of these rooms, all to themselves. ❛ wanna find somewhere a little more . . . private, baby ? ❜ one of their favourite past-times is to touch her, & can anyone really blame them ?

THEIR WORDS MAKE HIM stop in this tracks, the mindless pacing he had been engaged in ceasing as their words register. they claim that they don't know who he is, & seem genuine enough in doing so that he doesn't question it. at once, the tension seems to seep from being, shoulders going down a significant amount from where they had been around ears. his ice cold gaze softens slightly at the knowledge, & the look he gives them is gratefully appraising. if they don't know who he is, they must be from a different kingdom, or have been living under a rock―

WITH A MASTER ILLUSIONIST as company, there are bound to be mysteries, & the endless feels the aura emanating from other without needing to probe with powers. but desire isn't anywhere near intimidated, as many might be with someone of other's prowess. no, they're not intimidated ; they're curious more than anything, like a cat curling around a human's legs in expression of endearment, they curl something close to a smile in his direction. they like the idea of getting to know someone with his powers, eternally interested in those whose powers mimic or frame on the edges of their own, & desire knows its own illusions in the hearts & minds of those enmeshed in their web.

BUT HE'S MISTAKEN if he thinks he's shocked them ― they've seen much in their eons-long existence, the many universes they had had purview over before this one.
