A couple of very interesting bits of information came out from a talk event entitled "Butchan's Room Part 1" after a screening of "Patlabor Ezy File 1" at Shinjuku Piccadilly cinemas last night, 26 May 2026. In attendance were series director Yutaka Izubuchi and executive producer Taro Maki, who is president and CEO of Genco.

Maki announced; "We're currently making a French version of 'Patlabor'. The characters changed in 'Ezy', but I realized that they're versatile as long as you stick to certain principles". This led to a short discussion about the rights to the franchise. Izubuchi clarified that someone initially said "You can't make a new one" and Izubuchi stated he got that person to step aside, however that person wasn't Mamoru Oshiii. As a result he had the legal status of the group changed from Headgear Limited Company to Headgear Corporation in order to get the project moving. It is not clear if the project Izubuchi was referring to "Ezy" or this French language project.
