the sad thing about all the discourse that’s happening rn is that it was bound to happen. being so open to the public about your personal life can be fun and a way to connect with fans at first but eventually attracts extreme parasocialness, not only from fans, but other public figures too. people start moving like they know them personally and feel like they can have an opinion on their relationship or even as individuals. and worse, ppl start to feel entitled to having access to all parts of their life.
especially with Paige and Azzi being at the height of not only their careers but of women’s basketball, they were automatically put on a pedestal to be dissected even if they didn’t ask for it, and their relationship was another cataclysm of intrigue and conversation. and now, like we have already seen, they are starting to close off and become distant (and as they should) and put a boundary on what they want the public to see.
the way it’s going I wouldn’t be surprised if they stop casually posting too, I mean look at everything that’s come from Paige simply posting a dump of her trip to visit one of her best friends. literally think piece after think piece.
it sucks bc ik after uconn they probably felt like they could take off the shackles and be a normal happy couple and hard launch their relationship and post wtv they wanted like any other couple, but people started to get weird and fast.
it’s sad, I hope they are able to find peace and protect their mental by setting wtv boundaries are necessary.
