moment that completely and permanently altered the way i view love: in fruits basket shigure knows that he's in love with akito since practically the day she was born. he watches her get traumatised and subsequently traumatize everyone around her with her erratic behaviour for years, knowing he can't do anything to help her, knowing she has to want to change before he can help. in the meantime he has to pretend he doesn't really care, because if he showed her how much she actually meant to him she could never change for the better. and he had to sit by and watch the love of his life lose herself in what she thought other people expected of her, watch her be a spoiled brat who's never heard the word no in her entire life, because even if he actually did something and tried to help, everyone else would jump in and shelter her further because the family head is always right no matter what. and even with all the terrible things she did and the terrible things he also did (ahem fucking her mom) he still loves her enough to keep stirring the pot and using people to her benefit, just to see her finally change. because he loves her.
