My treat to you is the best fake blood recipe for costume, cosmetic, whatever! It’s safe to eat and is what I’ve used for fake blood since I was about 15.

1. Add about 3/4 cups of caramel sauce to a mixing bowl. You can use other substances like honey, corn syrup, maple syrup, elmer’s glue (but DO NOT CONSUME IF YOU USE THE GLUE) Just know that whatever color your initial starter is will impact your food coloring ratios.
2. Stir in 1/4 cup of water and whisk together with a fork until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
3. Add 1 teaspoon of red food dye and whisk.
4. Now add about 3-5 drops of blue food dye. (Around here the color will look a little odd, but please wait till all ingredients are added to change up the colors)
5. Finally add about 1 or 2 drops of green, and whisk until you get to a good solid color.
6. Add in 1 tablespoon of corn starch and WHISK!!!! Scrape down the bottom of the bowl and the sides and get rid of all the lumps of powder. (Obviously this is dependent on the kind of blood you’re looking to make, ei if you want thinner blood add less, if you want thicker add more.)
7. I would advise here to do a splatter test (flick your blood against a sheet of white copy paper to evaluate the color and thickness and test how the blood will photograph and how it will look in different lighting.
BONUS STEPS, as you can see I’ve added little chunks of gore in my blood, here’s how.
1. Drain a can of chickpeas and strain. You want to get the extra water off, but don’t worry about drying them off.
2. Get a big knife and crush, slice, whatever to those chickpeas! I would advise using chickpeas bc they are first and will crumble easily, unlike some beans which will smush. Also they won’t start molding or stinking over time.
3. Don’t worry about getting the bean shards all as small as possible, but get a good diversity. These are ment to represent bits of bone, muscle, fat, whatever you need to be in your blood, get creative!
4. Stir in your chick pea bits a little at a time until you yield a satisfactory result.
