i bought a small little paddington bear in a cute little bag for $0.49 today and the bag said “please take care of this bear!” and there was a little note in the bag from someone named jay that was for someone named emma that said that this little bear was a good luck charm and that if you took care of it you would have good luck wherever you went so what im trying to say is its my most prized possession
i see posts about productivity and focusing that are like “turn off your phone! don’t even THINK about taking your EYES off your work!”
cut to me doing homework, getting distracted every three minutes and indulging in every “i should check instagram” thought that i have, because if i didn’t, the thought would stick in my brain and i would lose productivity. i’ve tried to stay completely 100% focused, and i just end up zoning out while staring at the paper.
‘cause yeah, i let myself get distracted, but it’s personally better for me to indulge in those thoughts instead of letting them jumble my brain. and hey! i finish the work.
if you’re neurodivergent, some widely-known “study rules” might not apply to you, and that’s perfectly ok!
I am not even slightly joking when I say that your backpack can give you back/shoulder pain and significantly affect your resting posture, because this happened to me! Your backpack should be no more than 10% of your body weight. Here are some tips to lighten the load.
Experiment with different organization systems that minimize the things you need to carry.
Notepad and an accordion folder. Take notes on the notepad and then rip out the paper and put it into the section of your accordion folder that corresponds to that subject. Only keep the current unit of material in your accordion folder.
Master notebook. One multisubject notebook for all your classes.
Completely digital notes. Take notes digitally and use an app like iScanner to scan any handouts you get in class.
Use the waist straps if you have them. And wear both straps.
You can buy a sternum strap online if your bag doesn’t already have one. Seriously, these help so much.
Clear out what you don’t use.
Clean out your papers weekly. Only carry the current unit.
Consider taking stuff out of your pencil pouch.
If you don’t use something regularly, consider taking it out. You can always ask someone else if they have a stapler you can use.
Carry textbooks in your arms instead of on your back.
Wear your backpack no lower than the hollow of your back. Your bag should also lay flat on your back.
Strengthen your core and back. While this doesn’t fix the weight of the backpack, being stronger helps your posture
Buy a lightweight laptop. My laptop adds significant weight to my backpack and I have regrets every day.
Carry what you need for the day. If you have a block schedule, get in the habit of taking out the textbooks you don’t need.
If you don’t have to bring a textbook to class and are just carrying it around since you might want to do homework/reading out of it, try scanning those pages or taking a picture of the homework problems.
Try not to carry coins.
Consider a backpack with wheels. Messenger bags and tote bags… we already know those aren’t good for your back, but have you considered not carrying a backpack at all?

Chromosome Condensation anyone?
35/100 days of productivity
pulled an all nighter because i realized my ap euro exam is in 2 weeks and i know barely ½ the course
I found this essay planner and it has really helped today make things clear and find the main points of my essay on anxiety disorders.
Little Ways to Be Healthier in College/University
1. Walk to class.
Even if you’re a commuter student (like me), this option is achievable. I like to purposefully park my car far away from my class building, especially on a sunny day. Give yourself plenty of time to complete the walk, and enjoy the weather while you’re at it—it feels so good!
2. Spend time outside at every opportunity.
There are so many ways to do this. Bring your lunch outside. Study outside. If you step out of a class for a quick break (as I often do), spend that time outside if possible. (Just don’t hang out right next to your classroom window—it could be awkward if your professor noticed you!) And don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
3. Exercise daily.
It doesn’t have to be a full workout. Even just taking the stairs instead of the elevator (if you can), biking home instead of driving home, or a stroll around the mall will leave you feeling refreshed.
4. Snack healthier.
The only way to effectively make yourself do this is to have healthy options on hand. Cashews, apple slices with peanut butter, and fruit strips are my personal favorites.
5. Smoothies.
Smoothies are my secret weapon as a picky eater. If a food is good for me but I don’t like the texture, I just throw it in the blender with some yummy fruit, yogurt, and milk, and I won’t even notice the part I don’t like!

i found some time to start researching yesterday and decided to go back to basics. i re-read a couple of chapters of ulysses and started to make note of any potential references to descartes, which i’ll later compare with some of the allusions i’ve found in finnegans wake. feeling excited to start everything properly in september :)
