I've lived in Nottingham for 34 years, and in Wollaton for 16. I first visited Wollaton Park in November 1981 on my first date with my husband - it's been a special place for us since then, and especially since we moved into the area, where we now back onto the park with our own gate ( the row of houses in the top right of the pic). Today for the first time I was lucky enough to go onto the roof of Wollaton Hall on a beautiful sunny Easter Monday, with a 360 degree view of the whole park and all of Nottingham. The picturesque village of Eyam in Derbyshire - pretty as a chocolate box. A village with a tragic and heroic story. In 1665, when the Bubonic Plague was ravaging London, a bundle of cloth was delivered to the local tailor - from London - and infected with the deadly disease. Over the next few months, dozens of villagers died - when the local Rector, William Mompesson decided to take action. The whole village went into voluntary quarantine, and cut themselves off from the villages and communities around them, to prevent the disease from spreading further. Around two thirds of the village died from the plague - 279 men, women and children - but who knows how many hundreds of lives were saved by their selfless actions.

Calke Abbey, Derbyshire - the house that time forgot. So atmospheric on a grey, cold day - ghosts of past inhabitants around every corner.

Came across these guys walking into the sunset this evening. I was tempted to follow them round for a while as they are shedding their antlers, and a couple of this group have impressive ones. It's amazing that the red deer re grow them every year! #wollatonpark #reddeer #sunset #antlers #nature

Today's walk from Baslow, Derbyshire up to Baslow Edge, where the panoramic views were stunning. Every first weekend, me, hubby and our oldest, funniest friends head out for a hike in the beautiful Peak District. It's become our 'thing' - we walk, take pictures, laugh till we cry, always stop somewhere for coffee and cake, and truly appreciate the wonderful countryside we have on our doorstep. Being in the fresh air, appreciating the natural beauty around us with good friends - some of the best things in life!
