How to make a difference online!
Donate money to BLM foundations if you can. A good one is blacklivesmatter.com but there are also countless bail funds and GoFundMe pages to donate to. Make sure to research what they put their money into first. Every dollar counts.
Stream videos and music/buy from black creators. Find YouTube videos from black creators and watch them (with ads), then watch 3-4 videos in between so that Youtube doesn't mark it as spam and repeat. This is great way to contribute money if you can't afford to.
Sign online petitions. Really, all it takes is one click to have your voice heard. Make sure to share them so that they are seen.(Note: donations to change.org DO NOT go to the petition)
Spread awareness and educate others. Post on social media and discuss the things that are happening right now. If you see people being racist or displaying ignorance, CALL IT OUT. No matter who it is, they absolutely should not be allowed to be blind to this.
Keep yourself in check. Reflect on what gives you inherent privilege and how you can use it to help the unheard. Actively speak out against racism. Unlearn habits and lines of thinking that are harmful to others.
Call your local government and DEMAND change. A simple phone script would be something like "Hello, my name is ------ and I live in ------. I am calling to demand that the government act on saving the lives of people of colour and condemning racial profiling, police brutality and the use of excessive force.
BLACK LIVES MATTER.
