I agree wholeheartedly. I miss the old Crowley so much. He never would have allowed himself to be taken advantage of the way Uncle Crowley does. His mother never would have gotten away with the things she did to him, because he would have seen it at the very beginning and ended it (or her) without a qualm. I have no doubt he would have helped the Winchesters anyway, but it would have been on his own terms. That demon trial ruined him, to an extent. But as I said before, I think his character is on a major redemption arc, which is really kind of what the whole show is about, when you think about it. While there are some aspects I find positive about Uncle Crowley, I think they were there in the Old Crowley also…just for different reasons.

I dunno…maybe in the writers’ minds, the shit Crowley’s being subjected to is his penance for everything he’s ever done (to achieve his redemption), but on the other hand, it is inconsistent considering the awful things Cas has done that he hasn’t had to “pay” for. With Cas, it was, “yeah man, you fucked up…happens to the best of us. We’re good.”  With Crowley, it’s thrown in his face at every turn. It doesn’t seem fair. Seems to me that a good guy has more of an obligation to be good, and when he slips, he should be held more accountable. Cas was an ANGEL. He was supposed to be one of the good guys, and he turned into a mass murderer.  Doesn’t matter that his intentions were “pure.”  Crowley is a demon. He’s supposed to be a bad guy. Not only is it his job, but it’s necessary to his survival. When he risks his life to be good, and gets no acknowledgment for it, it doesn’t seem like much of an incentive to continue that behavior, does it?

Yet he does.

So does that make the Angels monsters too? Where’s their comeuppance?  How about Godstiel? Should he get what he deserves for all the innocent people he murdered?  How about when Dean killed Amy for something she MIGHT do? …And don’t even get me started on Rowena…

Honestly, no one in this show is innocent (I mean, as far as the monster community is concerned, I’m sure Sam and Dean are considered serial killers), and just because one is a monster doesn’t make one evil (Benny, anyone? How about Lucky the skinwalker from “All Dogs Go To Heaven?”).

Crowley, storywise, seems to be on a huge redemption arc, and I think that, considering the fact that he has given, and still does give aid, often, and many times at great risk to himself (even though no matter what he does for them, they treat him like shit), that he should get as much consideration at least as Castiel, or Benny…even Meg 2.0 gained a measure of redemption.

I can’t say I’m awesomely thrilled with Uncle Crowley (because tbh, I like the old badass Crowley), but if the story is about redemption and forgiveness, then Crowley has just as much right to that as any of the others, and he deserves at least as much forgiveness for what he did before as post-Godstiel got.

After all, it’s easy for a good person to be good…but when you’re a bad guy, being good of your own free will, with no expectation of reward and at great danger to yourself, deserves some damn credit.
