Wow that's a really big gecko
What Algeria can teach us about Palestine.
An explainer by salem.d.barahmeh
Sent this too a friend on insta and she lacked context on a couple things so just in caseâŚ
Calling settlers âFrench Algeriansâ is actually historically accurate. They got to be called Algerians we were called âindigeneâ (in French it was synonymous to savage) and âmuslimsâ (Muslim was a legal status that had nothing to do with actually believing in Islam you could be Christian Muslim for example). At best our grandparents were called âFrench Muslim of Algeriaâ they wanted to erase the fact that the land belonged to us by refusing to call us Algerians.
The guy with the eye patch in the video is a horrible monster. Itâs the general Aussaresses. He is famous for admitting using torture and admitting that the French generalized it against Algerians (with the approval of the government). White people hated him for admitting that but the thing is he never expressed any regrets. He just stated it as a normal fact of the war. He actually trained the Americans who were sent to Vietnam encouraging them to use torture on civilians saying that when thereâs an uprising the enemy is the people so they must be tortured and killed. He died in 2013 and Iâm sure that he is burning in hell.

You canât deserve a personâs love. Youâll drive yourself crazy thinking like that. They either love you, or they donât. That doesnât mean you werenât good enough for them to love you, because love isnât something you earn by being good enough. It isnât something that can be quantified or doled out. Donât blame yourself for not being loved how you need to, just teach yourself how to look for love where love lives.
This isnât just about romantic love, or even skewed towards romantic love, although it does apply there too. One of the hardest things Iâve ever had to accept is that my mother simply wasnât someone who was capable of loving me, and there is no version of me that I could have ever been that would have earned that love. But with acceptance came healing. I was able to love myself more instead of resenting myself for not being more than any one person could be.
