banned books you need to read
with everything going on in the world, it's so important to stay educated. a lot of these books are banned because there are parallels to dystopia and today. these books are just some that i have read, and i'm working on reading more banned books, so drop your recs below!
1984 by George Orwell
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
The Color Purple by Alice Walker
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
You're the Only One I've Told by Meera Shah
**note: by the term, "banned books", it means that these books are frequently challenged, usually by conservative groups, and as a result, these books have been banned in some schools and libraries across the US. so these do NOT mean they are banned everywhere.
BUT the trump administration is aiming to ban A LOT books across the US, and most of the books on here are on their list.**

Corporate America is backing away from Pride amid the DEI backlash and the White House's war on diversity.
Trumps anti-DEI crusade is causing businesses to drop progressive agendas for fear of government retaliation.
This would indicate that Corporate America was always rainbow washing with their participation in Pride events.
This is a great reminder that Corporate America is not now, has never been, and never will be on your side.
Remember this when Corporate America puts out all their meaningless hashtag pride statements in a couple of months, and don't let them get away with it. Call them out, and give your support to the people who do stand up when it matters, not just when it's convenient or profitable.

Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker has again stood up for trans kids, this time condemning Trump as a “cruel bully” at a Human Rights Campaign
Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker has once again stood up for trans kids, this time condemning US president Donald Trump as a “cruel bully” at a Human Rights Campaign event. The staunch LGBTQ+ supporter, who signed an executive order in 2019 to protect young trans people and introduced a law in 2023 to prevent book bans, spoke at the Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles on March 22. He began: “The Trump administration and his Republican lackeys in Congress are looking to reverse every single victory this community has won over the last 50 years. “And right now it’s drag queens reading books and transgender people serving in the military. Tomorrow, it’s your marriage license and your job they want to take.”
