* FOUGHT / FREE !

     “ you’re the strongest person i’ve met. ” alyra said, staring defiantly at the sky boy’s crumpled frame, offering her hand out to help him up. it was for his own good that she’d knocked him to the ground. the boy needed to learn, needed to survive. “ i’ve never seen someone handle grief the way you do. it’s strange, but i can still see your strength. do not throw that away. ”

     “ i remember you. ” alyra stated, her voice laced with a mixture of relief and disappointment. on the one hand, it was nice to see a familiar face, but at what cost? now another person she knew lived under the bloody reign of a girl from the sky who had taken it upon herself to lead them through the another death wave. a heavy sigh washed over the woman as she sat down near the man. “ i never thought i would be so desperate to see the sun again. ”

     “ oh, this is so not happening. ” alyra mumbled, stumbling out of the trees towards what she thought was a clearing. instead of a grassy field, or even sand, she stood staring at a huge expanse of water. swearing under her breath in her native tongue, she halted Aeryn and stared in disbelief. never in her life had she seen so much terrible blue in one place. she couldn’t have gone far enough to be at the ocean, but she couldn’t fathom that she had reached anything but that, despite the fact that there was clearly some land masses on the horizon. the loss of tree cover set her on edge nearly as much as the water did, but she couldn’t deny the strange pull that the lake had on her. “ stay here. ” she murmured to the beast, heading across the small stretch of pebbly beach to reach water’s edge.
